Tiffany Haddish Praised Will Smith For Defending Jada After Chris Rock's Remark At The Oscars

"It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."

Tiffany Haddish has weighed in on Will Smith's viral altercation with Chris Rock during the Academy Awards yesterday.

I'm sure most of you already know what happened, but for those who don't, here's a quick recap: Chris, while presenting onstage at last night's ceremony, mentioned Jada Pinkett Smith's bald head as part of a "joke" that also involved a reference to the movie GI Jane.

His comments didn't sit right with viewers, since Jada's been very open about experiencing hair loss as a result of alopecia in the past.

Will was particularly upset, and responded to Chris's remarks by smacking him across the face. He later told the comedian, "Keep my wife's name out your fucking mouth."

Tiffany addressed the slap — which has sparked some division online — in an interview with People after the show. She called Will's actions "beautiful" and praised him for standing up for Jada.

"As a woman, who has been unprotected, for someone to say, 'Keep my wife's name out your mouth, leave my wife alone,' that's what your husband is supposed to do, right? Protect you," explained the actor, who co-starred opposite Jada in Girls Trip back in 2017.

"That meant the world to me," she continued. "And maybe the world might not like how it went down, but for me, it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen because it made me believe that there are still men out there that love and care about their women, their wives."

Tiffany also criticized Chris for including the line about Jada's hair in his Oscars set. "Why would you do that? He didn't even run the joke by her," she said, suggesting that Jada, who could be seen rolling her eyes from the audience, "was hurt" by the comment.

"If she wouldn't have been hurt, [Will] probably wouldn't have said nothing," Tiffany pointed out.

"But you could see he was clearly … And they exploited it. They exploited her," she added. "So, 'I have to do something' … He protected his wife."
