Madonna Said She Wants To Do Another World Tour, Preferably With Britney Spears Which Might Be The Best Idea I've Heard Recently

"I'm not sure she'd be into it, but it would be really cool."

Almost 20 years ago, Madonna and Britney Spears shared the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards to perform a medley of the pop icon's greatest hits.

Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliot were there, too, and those who didn't watch the show in real time can rest assured their group number was as iconic as you'd expect.

Britney and Christina opened the set with a rendition of Madonna's "Like A Virgin" while dressed in white and carrying floral bouquets. They wore actual veils.

Wardrobe aside, if you're familiar with this pop cultural ensemble moment it's probably because Madonna kissed Britney at the end and then immediately turned to kiss Christina.

We don't really know why this happened, but it was 2003 and MTV made a pretty big deal about it.

Anyway, fast-forward roughly two decades to yesterday, when Madonna went live on Instagram to answer some questions from fans. Responding to one that inquired about whether she'll go on tour again in the future, Madonna replied in the affirmative and called on Britney to join in as well.

"Hell yeah, got to. Stadium, baby," she said of performing on tour again. Madonna went on to offer a more specific suggestion. "Me and Britney, what about that?"

"Yeah, I'm not sure she'd be into it, but it would be really cool," Madonna continued.

"We could reenact the original..." — kiss, an assistant interjected — "Yeah."

Although we may very well be in an endless era of reboots and revivals, some things are probably best left in the past. That said, a joint tour starring Madonna and Britney? I'm already there.
