People Are Sniggering At MPs' Middle Names As They Are Sworn Into Parliament

Can he really be called David "London" Lammy? H/T ParlyApp.

MPs have been queuing up to swear into parliament for the new term. And their full names are being written in the official record.

Hansard has very grand names on show, not least from the prime minister, chancellor and health secretary.

Environment minister Rory Stewart also revealed his real full name: Roderick James Nugent Stewart. No wonder he uses Rory.

But it was culture secretary John Whittingdale and London mayoral hopeful David Lammy that really caught people's attention.

No one was expecting these middle names.

It got some Westminster-watchers rather excited.

Nominative determinism? London mayoral hopeful David Lammy's Middle name is "London" and James Whittingdale's is "Flashy"! h/t @ParlyApp

Yesterday's Hansard is a particular joy for finding out MP middle names. E.g. "Right honourable John Flashy Lawrence Whittingdale, Maldon"

Hard to see past David "London's my middle name" Lammy as the next London mayor! @DavidLammy

Sadly, "Flashy" and "London" were simply typos. The pair's real names were accurately recorded in a separate document.

Lammy told BuzzFeed News: "I've always said I've got London at my core – but I must say I didn't expect Hansard to take it quite so literally."
