Katy Perry Just Got Real About Therapy

"There's nothing weird about taking care of your physical or mental health."

Katy Perry recently revealed during an emotional therapy session on her promotional livestream, that she has experienced depression and suicidal thoughts.

And people appreciated her openness and honesty.

kudos to katy perry for very publicly opening up about her suicidal thoughts

It doesn't matter how talented you are. Suicidal thoughts aren't about talent or value. Thank you @katyperry for yo… https://t.co/r5LGNVt0oO

Well now Katy has continued to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health by discussing her experiences of therapy.

Speaking to Kiis FM, Katy said:

I've been going to therapy for about five years and I think it has really helped my mental health incredibly. And it's a really wonderful thing to be able to talk to someone who doesn't judge you, because I don't think a lot of people have that. I encourage it. People think it's weird or they think yoga is weird. No, there is nothing weird about taking care of your physical and mental health. That's awesome.

She went on to say that she hopes her openness about mental health will help others – and that's why she included the therapy session on her livestream.

    Katy said:

I have nothing to hide and I think that in a way, if I let down my guard and lift the veil on what people think that people in my position are or look like, maybe they can see that we are all just the same. We are like anyone else. Maybe they can realise, "Oh, well, I kind of see myself in Katy Perry, and that means maybe I can dream just as big as her, and I can do something with my life or chase my dreams.

    Go Katy 🙏 💕
