It didn't take long for a troll to retweet the story alongside this comment.

The comment was presumably in reference to China's One-Child policy, which was enforced by vast fines, compulsory sterilisations, and abortions – sometimes 9 months into pregnancy. An unintended result of the rule was an epidemic of female infanticide. The policy was lifted in 2015.

Thankfully John came to the rescue and called out the troll in his trademark classy manner.
