Justin Bieber’s Dad Issued A Sarcastic “Apology” For His Anti-LGBTQ Post During Pride Month Suggesting That The Community Should “Thank A Straight Person” For Their “Existence”

Justin has not acknowledged the backlash surrounding his dad’s offensive tweets.

Justin Bieber’s dad has issued a half-hearted apology after being faced with intense backlash over an anti-LGBTQ post he shared earlier this week.

On Wednesday, the 48-year-old tweeted his thoughts on Pride Month, suggesting that people in the LGBTQ community should express gratitude to straight people.

“Don’t forget to thank a straight person this month for your existence,” the message read over a photo of a rainbow flag.

The week prior to this, he tweeted that people “need to celebrate families,” adding: “U know the reason we’re all here! The things this generation glorifies is unbelievable!”

Wednesday’s tweet has since been deleted. However, it was live long enough to cause some serious backlash online, with many calling out the anti-gay subtext to the message, which wrongly suggests that people in the LGBTQ community are unable to have children.

The criticism came thick and fast, particularly from Justin’s fans — many of whom noted the irony in Jeremy’s emphasis on “families” when it’s known that he was not entirely present in Justin’s upbringing.

“stop trying to be homophobic with this argument that seems to defend ‘traditional family’ you were not even a good father to justin, maybe you should worry about justin's daddy issues, what a hypocrisy,” one person tweeted.

“bro, you literally left your girlfriend with your child and just remember then when Justin became famous…please…if i have to thank straight people like you i prefer not ✌️” echoed someone else.

So, with the backlash mounting online, it wasn’t long before Jeremy returned to Twitter in an attempt to defend himself.

“Acknowledging the nuclear family is offensive?” he questioned in another tweet. “My apologies to those offended. Was not my intent. Not that my opinion matters.”

In light of the sarcastic tone, it’d be a stretch to say this suffices as an apology — and it seems his critics weren’t satisfied either as fans doubled down on their outrage in the replies.

“you definitely knew you were being disrespectful and still posted it..,” one person responded.

“It’s how you acknowledged it + the timing… you can acknowledge the ‘nuclear family’ without the homophobic undertones,” added another. “It’s also uninformed of you to imply that straight people are the only ones capable of having ‘nuclear families’”

An influx of fans also replied with a picture that read: “Don’t forget to thank Justin Bieber this month for your paid bills.”

Justin has not acknowledged his father’s tweets or the backlash. However, it’s important to note that the two have had a historically complicated relationship.

Justin’s parents — Pattie and Jeremy — were both teenagers when Justin was born, and split before he turned a year old.

After Jeremy moved away, Pattie raised Justin with the help of her mother and stepfather. Speaking about this in 2015, Justin explained that his dad was only 18 and “not in a place where he could raise a kid.”

“He was immature. He left for like a year when I was about four, went to British Columbia, came back on Father’s Day,” he recalled. “I remember my mom said, ‘If you’re going to be here, you have to be here.’”

Despite this, Justin said it’s a “misconception” that Jeremy was a “deadbeat dad.” “I was with him on weekends and Wednesdays,” he added.
