In your thoughts, words, and actions you cultivate a sense of respect. ​You respect everyone on this team, you respect the office of the Presidency, and you respect every individual you encounter on the campaign trail, including Team Pete's competitors. ​You know that the better you hold up this value yourself, the better it will reflect outside.

Respect

You know we need a president who seeks to serve and unify a diverse nation. You want to be a part of a campaign team and a coalition of supporters that kindly embraces and reflects the increasingly diverse party and country to which we belong. You honor this value in your practices by  proactively working to include people of different backgrounds and viewpoints in the campaign, and by cultivating a sense of welcome to all.

Belonging

Honesty is in your nature, and it is one of the ways you work to restore faith in our democracy among everyday Americans and be a part of a national movement rooted in trust and faith in our country and our beliefs. Internally and externally, your effort will be characterized by fidelity to the truth.

Truth

You are  working in service of our country and to elect a President who will represent our values and make American lives better. In moments of disagreement, the temptations of pride and ego will arise. Rooted in our mission, you will let our common purpose be a touchstone as you do your part to foster a climate of trust and mutual respect.

Teamwork

You will not hesitate to take bold stances and to accept risk in the defense of your values. Your respect is reserved for people, not for conventions. You accept no truisms without questioning. The spirit of originality will create the pressure and permission for you to do things not done before, to stand out from the crowd not by waving your arms for attention but by the fact of being different.

Boldness

You know that the conduct of a campaign can be as influential as its outcome. You know you have a responsibility to live up to your values, and that every participant in this campaign, from a first-time volunteer to the candidate and top staff, must model the campaign's values. When there is a mistake, you take ownership, learn, adjust, and move on. Missteps are inevitable, but you know that they should never be repeated. You own your choices and your work.

Responsibility

You know there is no point mounting an unorthodox, underdog campaign unless it is one of substance. You understand this campaign has the opportunity to bring meaningful ideas forward for debate. You believe in taking questions seriously and answering them directly. You lay aside the superficial in favor of the meaningful. You embrace complicated challenges, and work to improve the overall dialogue in how campaigns talk about policy.

Substance

You understand that a project like this one requires enormous discipline. Through energy and determination, you will handle the campaign resources with the stewardship they deserve, mindful that this campaign is fueled by the gift of other people’s time, money, relationships, and reputations.

Discipline

You understand that a functioning presidential campaign is such a marvel that you may at times be amazed simply by the fact of what we are doing. But you know that the standard we should hold ourselves to in every part of our work is not whether it is at the level of a presidential campaign, but whether it is at the level we would expect of the best presidential campaign of this time.

Excellence

You understand that, amid the great challenge we have accepted, we must be joyful. You are privileged to be in the very center of the most important conversation in the world. You are part of a team of wonderful human beings. You know that, along the way, we will all get many opportunities to lift one another up and lift up those we encounter. The American presidential election is the world’s greatest civic and democratic ritual. It will shape us but we can shape it too. You believe we should shape it, partly, by spreading the joy of working for our beliefs.
