    You Might Be A Feminist

This article is for anyone who has questions about what feminists are fighting for and hoping to change.

    You Might Be a Feminist

I used to have a picture in my mind about what feminism looked like. It was an angry woman who resented men for being men and rejected any idea of traditional gender roles. Over time, after reading articles and hearing speeches from people who considered themselves 'feminists', my picture of feminism changed drastically.

There is a very long way to go in clearing up what feminism is, what feminists are fighting for, and what we are hoping to change in the end. We are all familiar with Jeff Foxworthy's "You Might Be a Redneck" comedy routine. Since comedy is proven to break tension over controversial matters, I would like to use Foxworthy's outline to clear up some misconceptions about feminism.

    Enjoy!

If you would like to receive equal pay in the work place, you might be a feminist.

If you would like the same benefits as a man, you might be a feminist.

If you don't enjoy being told what to do with your body while a man is free to put his sperm into anything he wants without consequences, you might be a feminist.

If you would like to be a working mother without being shamed, you might be a feminist.

If you would like to stay at home with your children without being shamed, you might be a feminist.

If you are a women and would like to cook for your family and do the laundry without being accused of not being progressive enough, you might be a feminist.

If you are a woman and want someone else to do the cooking and cleaning while you do the yard work, you might be a feminist.

If you feel like your thoughts and feelings are invalidated by the questions, "Are you on your period?", you might be a feminist.

If you don't want your ideas, job application, opinion, plans to be of lesser value because of your gender (male, female, or anywhere in between), you might be a feminist.

If you want to know what it feels like to be able to walk to your car at night without fear of being attacked, you might be a feminist.

If you want to live in a world without sexual assault and rape, you might be a feminist.

If you don't want to feel like it is only a matter of time before you join the increasing number of people who have been sexually assaulted, like somehow you have dodged a bullet but not for long, you might be a feminist.

If you would like to play hockey without everyone questioning if you are gay, you might be a feminist.

If you would like to work in fashion, education, or interior design without everyone questioning if you are gay, you might be a feminist.

If you want your son, husband, male friend, brother, father, uncle, to feel comfortable showing their emotions however they wish to, whether that's crying, yelling, or sitting in silence, you might be a feminist.

If you want to be congratulated for changing a poopy diaper just like you child's father is, you might be a feminist.

If you would like maternity leave and paternity leave to be for the same amount of time, you might be a feminist.

If you don't enjoy receiving unsolicited dick picks, you might be a feminist.

If you are afraid that a man will never ask you on a date if they found out that you wrote this article, you might be a feminist.

But most importantly, if you agree with any of the above, if you disagree with any of the above, you might be human.
