"She-Hulk: Attorney At Law" Is The Most Unique Series Marvel's Ever Dropped — And Here's Why

I've marked my calendar — and I'm more than ready to She-Hulk out!

Marvel is bringing us something entirely different with their brand new series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. It's an irreverent legal comedy about a girl just trying to live her best life — while also battling turning into a 6'7" green, mountain of muscle in the middle of the courtroom.

If that hasn't already got you hooked, She-Hulk offers a completely fresh take on the Marvel series scene — and here's why.

1. Jennifer Walters stays smart when she transforms into She-Hulk.

Jennifer Walters is a badass lawyer who represents superhumans in the courtroom. She's also Bruce Banner's (The Hulk) cousin — and through a mysterious accident, she gets similar powers. Difference is, it looks like she'll be able to retain both her personality and intelligence when she turns into She-Hulk. This is a huge departure from the usual Hulk "SMASH" offering from nerdy Bruce versus rage Hulk — and means she'll be able to handle situations as they come with both brawn and brains.

2. You'll find yourself incredibly invested in Jennifer Walters' love life.

Tatiana Maslany (best known for her incredible multi-role performance in Orphan Black) is playing the titular character — who not only is dealing with her newfound powers and her high intensity job, but also has to wade through the 30s something dating pool as a 6'7" green Super Hero. It's hard enough out there to begin with — but being a big green fighting machine puts a whole new angle on things! Showing a Super Hero try to date regularly is a whole new angle for Marvel and I can't wait to see her tackle dating life.

3. It's the first Super Hero court procedural comedy.

Okay, so we already love our Marvel and legal shows — but now they're being combined into one ridiculous, hilarious extravaganza! While the brooding Matt Murdoch (of Daredevil fame) already fought criminals in and out of the courtroom, there wasn't much room for light-hearted comedy. Bringing a bunch of superhumans themselves into the courtroom provides a refreshing new twist on both genres and sounds like an absolute stitch-up. It will give us some super fun characters that Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk herself will either defend or oppose in court — let the absurdity begin!

4. You'll be blessed with sights of a Marvel universe favourite.

Mark Ruffalo has let us know that The Hulk will be shown in a whole new way and we'll see a different side of him as he interacts with his family. "We've never seen the Hulk interact with people in the way that he does in that show. It'll be really interesting." (Access Hollywood). We've also got our beloved Wong returning to rack up those MCU cameo points and Tim Roth reprising his role as Emil Blonsky/The Abomination.

5. You'll meet a load of new characters that'll make you fall in love.

Jessica Gao, head writer for the show, has hinted the show will contain a bunch of cameos and characters that have never existed in the MCU before, pulled straight from the comic books. So fingers crossed that our faves might sneak in an appearance...and it looks like there will be some oddball character casting to delight us along the way! 

6. You'll be enthralled by the ~smashing~ of the fourth wall.

Years before Deadpool even existed, we had the She-Hulk comics and her fourth wall-breaking snarkiness. It looks like She-Hulk: Attorney At Law will be playing around with this meta trope, so we can look forward to tongue-in-cheek asides and snappy dialogue from our hyperaware protagonist. 

7. And speaking of "smashing" — the patriarchy isn't safe either.

As She-Hulk grapples with her newfound power and struggles to retain her job and her normal life, she'll also be dismantling sexism in this smart feminist satire from head writer and Emmy winner Jessica Gao.

8. You'll be drawn in by the protagonist's struggle with accepting her newfound powers.

Most Marvel characters embrace their abilities and are all about the Super Hero lifestyle. But the power struggle between Jennifer Walters and She-Hulk will take us in a different direction, with her initial rejection of her situation and the desire to retain her old life being at the forefront of the character. 

9. And finally, the bright and goofy aesthetic of the show is unlike anything we've seen from Marvel before.

What makes She-Hulk: Attorney At Law truly stand out is how refreshingly fun and light it looks — it's being touted as Marvel's first true half hour comedy. She-Hulk is unafraid to explore the silly side to everyday Super Hero antics — and I'm so excited to delve into the ridiculous campy experience!
