    I've been making YouTube videos for about five years now, and I make content for Instagram and TikTok whenever I'm not writing here. If you're interested in creating video or photographic content, there's a few things worth investing in that can make the whole process a lot easier for you. Here are a few of the things I use, and would recommend getting your hands on!

    Let's kick it off with a classic that you've probably seen quite a few people use (and for good reason) – a Neewer ring light.

    If you're likely to create your content in the evenings when there's not much daylight, this is 100% worth the investment. Good lighting is probably the most important thing in my opinion, and this one is a great quality ring light. You can control if you want white light or something a little warmer, which is super handy and means you're fully covered. It comes with a few little add-ons too, including a phone holder so you don't have to improvise by stacking a load of books to rest your phone on (it's okay, we've all been there).

    If you're looking for something a little less grand (and a little less pricey), this desk-sized ring light might take your fancy.

    This ring light still allows you to control the warmth and brightness of the light, but might be more appropriate if you're struggling with space and want to start off small. If most of the content you plan on shooting will involve you at a desk sitting quite close to the light, starting off with this one might be a good shout!

    These lens wipes will always be needed, trust me on that.

    Regardless of what device you're using to take your pictures or videos, you want to make sure the camera is 100% clean so you can get the best quality possible. These are small and handy, and even come in a pack of 200 so you'll be sorted for quite a while. Take it from me, there's nothing worse than forgetting to clean the camera before making content, and realising later that it could've looked so much better. I'm still emotionally scarred from that – can you tell?

    This foldable stool comes in handier than you may think.

    I bought this a little over a year ago, and it's made my content-shooting a whole lot easier. I used to sit on my desk chair when I was filming, which was way too bulky and always seemed to get in the way. This stool is a lot more discreet and even foldable, so it's easy to store away when you don't need it.

    Self-shooting becomes way easier with a Bluetooth clicker like this one.

    Connect this little control to your phone using Bluetooth, and it'll let you take pictures as well as start and stop recording without using your phone directly. This way you can set up your phone where you need it, get in position, and use this clicker to control your content. I've got so much use out of this, I honestly don't know how I would create any of my Instagram content without it.

    I set these up along the ceiling line of the room where I make most of my content, and I use that along with a ring light to create a soft coloured glow in my pictures.

    If you use a phone or tablet to play around with photo or video edits, you'll know how fiddly it can get using your fingers when you want to do something that requires precision. Once I got this it made my daily editing tasks so much easier. Whether it's clearing the background of photos or getting creative with some artistic edits, this stylus simplifies it all.

    If you don't want to invest in a ring light, this tripod should make it to your wish list.

    If you're blessed with a lot of natural light coming into your content space, or if you happen to have a big window you can shoot in front of, you might have decided you don't need to invest in a ring light. If that's the case, it might be worth taking a look at this tripod that you can get your hands on, which you can set your phone on before shooting. This is also a good shout if you ever plan on doing self-shoots outdoors. I have one of these that I take out and about with me when I shoot in different locations, and it removes so much faff from the whole process!

    This flexi-phone stand is probably one of the simplest bits of equipment you could invest in, which would dramatically help you out. If you want to start off small and see how you get on, I'd say get your hands on this one and see how you go.
