Why 'The Prince Of Egypt' Needs To Be A Broadway Musical ASAP

Deliver us to the promised land (of Broadway).

Look, Disney may wear the crown when it comes to classic animated features, but there are plenty of other royals at court. The Duke of Dreamworks, for instance, never fails to bring his 1998’s tour de force, The Prince of Egypt, whenever someone wants to talk up the Disney renaissance, and with good reason.

Not only was the animation superbly executed, the score was one of the best ever featured in an animated film. Period. And now that other non-Disney classics like Anastasia are getting spun into stage productions, it’s high time we stop sleeping on TPoE.

Imagine it: the entire ensemble opening the show with a live rendition of “Deliver Us,” the Nile delta being breathed to life by stage magic. If you’re not crying by the second verse you have no heart.

As if that thought weren’t breathtaking enough, imagine the duet during “The Plagues” between Moses and the pharaoh, fire raining from the sky, locusts buzzing through the Egyptian palace. If you don’t know what it’s like to be shook, you will after that.

And we haven’t even gotten to God yet. The divinity of a melodic, awestriking, perfectly echoed voice speaking to Moses from the burning bush… the Red Sea parting… the freakin’ fire tornado!

That's it. That’s the plan. 1. Consider The Prince of Egypt 2. Consider The Prince of Egypt as a Broadway musical 3. Pick up pieces of blown mind
