It’s always a good feeling seeing an old, dreary house transformed into the home of your dreams. I’ve been searching far and wide to find my top 4 renovations in the UK.

1. Scottish café transformed into a glamorous home

Completed in 2012, this exquisite house started life as a roadside café for factory workers. The café closed in the 70’s and looked more like a military fort.

Hairdressing salon owners Glenn Malloy and Steve Davies bought the property and completely changed it. The couple replaced the windows, roof, added installation, kitchen, bathroom fittings, wiring and plumbing with a budget of £133,000.

This has to be in my top 4 simply because of the location of the property. The elegant home looks straight out to the Scottish coast delivering a Spectacular natural backdrop which is jaw-dropping.

2. Ranch house changes from an ugly duckling to a beautiful swan

The term “ugly duckling” comes to mind when looking at this house. Originally the exterior looks dreary but this Manchester home only took 9 months to turn into a “swan”.

Managed by architect Roger Stephenson, the property’s exterior completely changed to a more modern/rustic look, which complements a lifestyle of tranquillity in this location.

The interior delivers a seamless flow to the layout of the rooms, which makes this renovation sit on my list of the top 4.

3. A decaying bungalow gets a full makeover

In 2006, Dan and Liz Burgess bought an old, mouldy and damp bungalow in Berkshire. They knew that they had a big project on their hands and it took a total of 2 years to complete the renovation

With a budget of £220,000, the bungalow was taken down to the bare walls and had an extra floor and a new roof. The transformation was so impressive that the property was entered into the Daily Telegraph Homebuilding & Renovating Awards.

This incredible family home has to be on my list of top 4 renovations because of the epic size of the transformation. The bungalow was valued at £1.25 million in 2014, which I think is impressive considering that they had spent £840,000 altogether.

4. Grade listed building turning into grade A* apartments

This particular development is on my list because of its history. The elegant building is currently being transformed into 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and should finish later this year.

The Grade II listed building was originally built in 1785 and then was extended around 1805 and again in the early 20th century.

Although this refurbishment hasn’t been completed yet, I still firmly believe that this should be in my top 4. This property has a lot of potential and the scenery is just staggering, looking out to the Colne Valley Regional Park in Buckinghamshire.
