I Have Something To Say About Season Four Of "Veronica Mars": It Sucked

I'm just gonna pretend that there's no more Veronica Mars after the movie.

BTW, this post is full of Veronica Mars spoilers.

Veronica Mars is easily one of the greatest shows to come out of the CW.

The show has been loved by fans for years and has a massive following. The original three seasons were so popular that a fan-funded movie came out in 2014 and a fourth season came out this past July. The show captured the hearts of fans of all ages...

...but the fourth season was just garbage. I'll explain why.

Sooo... let's start at the ending of season four of Veronica Mars...

After years of the on-again-off-again relationship between Veronica Mars and Logan Echolls, they finally get married. While the two are preparing to leave for their honeymoon, Logan goes to move the car out of the street. Veronica realizes at the last second that the Neptune bomber placed a bomb in her car that was about to go off. She is unable to warn Logan in time, and Logan dies in the blast.

So for some reason, they waited until the last few minutes of the season finale to kill him off?!?!?!

Much to the disappointment of the many dedicated fans of the pairing, they killed him off right at the end of the season. Fans like me who were extremely attached to Logan and grew to love him were so disappointed in his send-off. Why kill one of the most beloved characters on the show after all of these years?

The worst part is, Logan's character growth over the years was massive and he finally was in a good place.

He and Veronica had their fair share of trauma and problems, but they were ready to work through them and start a life together. One thing that didn't sit right with me was that there was no scenes of a funeral or reactions from his friends. The only "closure" available was the one year later scene of Veronica leaving Neptune and listening to the voicemail of Logan explaining why he wanted to marry her. What even is that?!

Logan was a main character, and should have been given WAY more time in the finale.

Rob Thomas, the creator of Veronica Mars, waited until the last few minutes to rip Logan away with a tragic death. After all of the time Jason Dohring put into playing Logan, you think there would be more screen time to help both the characters and fan grieve? Or possibly a better ending?

And his reasoning is pretty lame, at best.

In an interview with TVLine, Rob Thomas said: "I think there’s a reason you don’t see many hard-boiled detective shows where the lead detective has a boyfriend or a girlfriend; it kind of limits your options. It was like we were cutting off a limb to save a life… I love Jason Dohring. And I love the character of Logan. But I feel as though we are going to have a better shot of doing more and more Veronica Mars if our heroine does not have a boyfriend or a husband back home."

Fans have loved and pushed for the Veronica and Logan storyline for years and it would have been great to see LoVe continue to work through their problems and grow together.

It would have been equally interesting to somehow have Logan get involved with Mars Investigations. Why is it a problem when a female lead has a husband back home? Keeping the show interesting does not mean you need to kill of one of the best characters on the show. Veronica does not have to be the underdog all the time. She can easily be her best self while being married to Logan.

In the end, Logan Echolls was a great character who captured the hearts of many fans. His departure from the show was unnecessary and a bit disrespectful. Season four was trash and it should have ended differently.
