Healthy Homemade Dog Treats 4 Ways

Dogs can be allergic to things just like humans, so consult your vet before changing their diet. Aside from individual allergies, all of the ingredients listed below have been confirmed as safe for dogs to consume.

Peanut Butter Pumpkin Pup Treats

INGREDIENTS

2 eggs

3 tablespoons peanut butter (raw, unsalted, not containing xylitol)

1 cup pumpkin puree (should not contain spices)

2½ cups whole wheat flour (can sub brown rice flour), and more for dusting

½ cup oats (if your dog is on a grain free diet, sub an extra ¼ cups of grain-free flour)

1 cup shredded carrots

PREPARATION

1. Preheat oven to 350°F/175°C.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, pumpkin, and peanut butter until combined.

3. Add flour, oats, and carrots, and mix until dough forms.

4. On a floured surface, roll dough out to about ½ inch thick. The dough will be a little sticky, so dusting the top and the rolling pin with flour will help.

5. Cut out using cookie cutter and place onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.

6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown.

7. Allow to cool on a wire rack and let your pup enjoy!

Apple Puppy Pretzels

INGREDIENTS

2 cups gluten-free oat flour

¾ cup gluten-free rolled oats

1 cup unsweetened applesauce

1 egg, beaten

PREPARATION

1. Preheat oven to 350°F/175°C.

2. In a large bowl, add the oat flour, rolled oats, and applesauce.

3. In a separate small bowl, beat the egg. Pour all but 1 tablespoon of the egg over the flour mixture and set aside the remaining egg for brushing later.

4. Using a wooden spoon, stir the mixture until a dough forms. The dough should be tacky but not overly sticky. Add a bit more or less flour as necessary.

5. Take a two tablespoon-sized piece of dough (approximate) and roll into a tube roughly the width of a pencil.

6. To make the pretzel, position the tube into a U-shape, then twist the ends around each other once. Using your fingertips, press the two ends into the bottom of the U to secure.

7. Place the pretzels onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and brush with the remaining egg.

8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until golden.

9. Allow to cool on a wire rack and let your pup enjoy!

Blueberry Bark Bites

INGREDIENTS

¾ cup peanut butter (raw, unsalted, not containing xylitol)

¼ cup water (or chicken stock - no salt, onion, or excess fat added)

1¼ cup oats

¾ cup blueberries

PREPARATION

1. In a medium bowl, stir together the peanut butter and water until combined.

2. Add oats and blueberries and gently combine.

3. Take a 2 tablespoon-sized (approximately) amount of dough in your hand and roll it (gently!) into a ball.

4. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and chill in the fridge for 1-3 hours.

5. Keep stored in the fridge or freezer and let your pup enjoy!

Sweet Potato Pup Treats

1 cup mashed sweet potato (can sub with canned)

1 egg, beaten

PREPARATION

1. Preheat oven to 350°F/175°C.

2. Stir ingredients together in a large bowl until dough forms.

3. Roll dough out on a floured surface, dusting with more flour as necessary.

4. Using a cookie-cutter, cut into rounds and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

5.Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

6. Let cool on a wire rack and let your pup enjoy!
