In the Saskatchewan town of Weyburn there is a KFC where you can pay a reasonable amount of money and partake in an all-you-can-eat buffet of fried chicken and all the fixins, amen and god bless the prairies.
It really exists!
But there is trouble afoot for what is often described as North America's only KFC buffet*. Reports say the parent company of KFC, Yum Brands, wants to shut down the buffet. Now even the premier of Saskatchewan is speaking out against the plucking of the Weyburn dirty bird buffet.
Leonard Free of KFC Canada, released a statement to say the buffet will remain open "for now."
"This afternoon, KFC learned that our buffet in Weyburn, Sask., was closing," he said. "Like many people, we were surprised by this news. We can confirm the buffet is not closing.… While we cannot guarantee that the Weyburn buffet will remain open forever, we can guarantee that it will be open for now."
The Weyburn buffet is legend. Fox Sports (and former TSN) broadcasters Jay Onrait and Dan O'Toole have been squawking about it for years, to the point that people go there to eat and then tag them on Twitter.
Have a look at the online ratings for this KFC. How many of the colonel's places get four-and-five-star reviews?
