5 messages from Coca-Cola we are taking into the next decade

One of the world’s biggest brands. We have seen their campaigns and commercials. We have been drinking their drinks. But have we given any thought to what the messages behind their slogans really is? You do not have to do the research yourself. We have collected five of the most important learnings from Coca-Cola that we all should take with us into the next decade.

Sharing is Caring

First off, we all remember the 'Share a Coke' campaign that first started in 2011. When we all started to both buy and send pictures of Coca-Cola bottles and cans to our friends and family, just because it had their names on it. Some will call it good strategic marketing, others will see it as a reminder of the importance of sharing and appreciating the ones we love and care about in our stressful everyday life. A reminder to be kind to one another. The meaningfulness with the smallest action as for example sharing a Coca-Cola bottle with our best friend, co-worker, grand mother or even a stranger. To sum up: Coca-Cola taught us that sharing is caring.

Open happiness

Coca-Cola told us to “Open happiness”, and then they told us to “Shake up christmas”. Coca-Cola is bringing us more happiness than their tasty drink and iconic bottles. Did you know that Santa as we know him, with white beard and red and white costume, was first brought to us by Coca-Cola? What greater joy than the happy man dressed in the colours of Coca-Cola sharing gifts - representing everything that Coca-Cola stands for. We have brought him this far, and we are taking him with us into the next decade as well. The spirit of Santa, the happiness and the joy is something we all could learn from. Let us open happiness in the next decade as well.

Coca-Cola states that 94 percent of the world’s population knows about the brand Coca-Cola and that the beverage is found in over 200 countries around the world. As one of the world’s largest marketers, manufacturers and distributors of non-alcoholic beverages, this statistics does not really surprise us. Coca-Cola campaigns present people of all colours, with different backgrounds and subcultures. They show us that Coca-Cola is for everyone. The christmas campaign of 2018 called #BeSanta, showed us the importance of helping people in your surroundings. They teach us about being compassionate and standing by each other. In other words, Coca-Cola unite people!

Creating moments

As long as we can remember, Coca-Cola has been served at every event. It has a nostalgic feeling to it. Together we have created moments surrounding something as simple as Coca-Cola! Since 1976, Coca-Cola is one of FIFA’s global collaborators, and we all remember a summer of a World cup don’t we? The excitement, the expectations, the joy, the tears - experiencing it all in the company of the bottles of Coca-Cola. Through their campaigns Coca-Cola encourage encounters and reminds us that every moment is a moment we won’t ever get back, therefore we should make the best of it and even enjoy life’s simple pleasures. A reminder we should take with us into the next decade.

Taste the feeling

One significant shift in their marketing strategy and Coca-Cola united us internationally in 2016 with one global campaign - “Taste the feeling”. Avicii, one of the greatest DJ’s of the decade, and Conrad Sewell created the promotional song "Taste the feeling" soundtracking several campaigns in 2016. A meaningful statement reminding us to enjoy the simple things in life, like an ice cold Coca-Cola! Can’t we all taste the feelings we once felt during special moments involving Coca-Cola?

Coca-Cola have taught us to be kind to one another, be happy, share, show solidarity, seize moments and appreciate even the smallest things in life. By implementing small actions in our everyday life we can bring these positive feelings and moments into 2020.
