These Similarities Between 'Avengers: Endgame' And The Battle Of Winterfell Are So Crazy

Who wore it better: Night King vs. Thanos edition.

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW*

Since the pop culture face-off that was the weekend of April 26, 2019, everyone and their aunt (*get it?*) has been tweeting, posting, and talking about Avengers: Endgame and the Battle of Winterfell. But has anyone stopped to ask why both were so incredibly popular? Maybe because they are the exact same thing!

Bran "Three-Eyed Raven" Stark = Doctor "Master of the Mystic Arts" Strange

Avengers: Endgame as told by Game of Thrones characters...Bran and Doctor Strange play the same role in these epic shows. Since Sunday's major plot twist, it has been speculated that Bran knew Arya would kill the Night King with the Valyrian steel dagger all along. That's why he gave it to her back in season 7. Hmm...who else knew the ending of a recent internationally-anticipated entertainment feature?

DOCTOR STEPHEN STRANGE, that's who! When the victims of "the snap" reappear at the Avengers' side at the end of Endgame, Doctor Strange explains to Tony that he can't tell him if the one out of fourteen million possible outcomes of their conflict would come to pass, otherwise it wouldn't happen. But it does! Kind of like handing someone the dagger they will use to save your life...

Epic Team-Ups Coming Together to Save the World

The Battle of Winterfell brought together the Mother of Dragons, the King in the North, No One, the Three-Eyed Raven, the Unsullied, the Dothraki, the Kingslayer, and basically everyone from the past seven seasons of the show except Cersei...all to fight their common enemy.

Avengers brought together the greatest superheroes in the Marvel universe to defeat one of the most dangerous villains in cinematic history. Put the Unsullied and the Dothraki standing outside the gates of Winterfell next to a still of THAT SCENE from Endgame, and you've got some badass looking team-ups.

They both have a seriously hideous "big bad."

The Night King is many things, but attractive is not one of them. Between his frozen, asymmetrical frosted tips and resting bitch face, he's definitely not the evil-in-a-charming-way type.

As Quill so adequately puts it in Infinity War, Thanos' "nutsack of chin" doesn't give him the sexiest of jawlines. It's not hard to hate these big baddies when you've got heroes with "America's ass" fighting for the good guys.

Some of us were really counting on Game of Thrones to bring us out of our Endgame depression, so much so that we had betting pools on which characters were most likely to bite the dust. While we didn't lose beloved characters on a "Red Wedding" scale, there were some very heroic deaths during the Battle of Winterfell. Jorah, Lyanna, Ed, Theon, and Beric died saving the living, and their sacrifices made them superheroes of the Seven Kingdoms.

Endgame had no shortage of sad moments (*ahem* see next point), but like the Battle of Winterfell, it did highlight the noble sacrifices of some of our favorite characters. What GoT character do you think Black Widow is most like?

Arya's defeat of the Night King shocked audiences everywhere. When she plunged her dagger into the Night King, killing his entire army in the process, cries of "YAS QUEEN" were heard around the world. Not to mention her classy one-liners, that brought her story full-circle. Yep, Arya elevated the Battle of Winterfell to epic status.

Isn't there another Stark who saved the world from imminent doom recently? Oh right, just the one and only TONY STARK, who sacrificed himself to snap Thanos and his army out of existence. Dagger to the heart that destroys White Walkers...colorful gauntlet that turns enemies to dust...sounds pretty similar to me!

They both feature metaphors for climate change.

For seven seasons, Jon Snow has been trying to get everyone on the same page: Death marches on the wall, and if they all don't stop squabbling amongst themselves, they're finished. While the White Walkers can clearly be seen as a metaphor for climate change, their symbolism is not all that different from a certain big purple guy we know (no, we're not talking about Barney).

Thanos believes his entire reason for existence is to wipe out half of humanity, because there are too many mouths to feed and not enough resources. And while he may be the Mad Titan, he genuinely thinks he is helping. With climate change taking a prominent role in the most watched television show and feature film in history, it's almost like movies and television shows are trying to tell us something...
