1.Expectation: You're going to go to college. It's going to be AWESOME!!!
Reality: It's kinda like the more adult version of high school. You still have schoolwork, you nap a lot, but damn that freedom feels fantastic.
2.Expectation: After you graduate from college, you'll land your dream job.
Reality: You have a job; you make some money. It's not ideal, but you're getting "experience."
3.Expectation: You'll wake up whenever you please.
Reality: You still have to wake up early for work. But at least you'll be done in time to make it to happy hour.
4.Expectation: You'll only have to sit in classes you actually want to take.
Reality: You have really boring meetings and job training sessions. But desk naps are totally still a thing.
5.Expectation: Sure, you won't have meets, games, daily practices, or coaches anymore, but you'll still play your sport.
Reality: You play the occasional pick-up game. And by occasional, you play one game...every five years. But that's OK — you weren't even that good.
6.Expectation: Not having spring, summer, or winter breaks is gonna be the worst.
Reality: You're so busy, you don't even realize what season it is. Remember desk naps? That's your vacation now.
7.Expectation: Everything you eat will be so much better than what the cafeteria or your parents serve. You'll even cook your own culinary masterpieces.
Reality: You don't even have time to cook. And eating out is expensive. Instant ramen and microwave popcorn have become your go-to dishes.
8.Expectation: Your best friends now are going to be your best friends forever.
Reality: You've grown apart, moved away from each other, and have become entirely different people. But your new friends? They are so much more like you.
9.Expectation: You'll always stay on top of the latest trends. You'll never end up like your out-of-touch parents.
Reality: You think all these new apps are dumb. You can't even name popular artists anymore. But don't worry, you still aren't your parents.
10.Expectation: In fact, your parents were so wrong. About everything.
Reality: OK, they were right about some things.
11.Expectation: You'll find your soul mate. Get married. Have kids. Your love life will be perfect.
Reality: You're still single, right swiping your way through disappointing first dates and friends with benefitships. But that's all right — your friends don't give you a +1 for their weddings anyway.
12.Expectation: You'll live alone in the spacious, beautiful apartment or house you own.
Reality: You're sharing a cramped apartment with roommates. But at least you're not lonely.
13.Expectation: You'll feel independent, successful, and awesome. You've become the person you always dreamed you'd be.
Reality: You feel like nothing's really changed.
