Late To Practice? This Coach Doesn’t Mind

HOUSTON, TX -- When a ten-year-old is late to baseball practice, his coach gets an exciting surprise in a note from the athlete’s mother. The note included a heartfelt apology explaining it was "take your kids to work day" at his father’s work, SB Nation Radio, and they lost track of time talking with two major baseball mentors. The card was signed, Tony Perez and Pete Rose.

A father, Ronn Culver, brings both his kids to work for quite an introduction. The young boys may not know the significance of meeting baseball legends, Tony Perez and Pete Rose, now, but any quick google search can display their significant and illustrious careers in no time at all. The real surprise would take place leaving the office as Ronn rushed to bring his son to baseball practice.

Before beginning his warm up and getting ready to join the team, the young athlete presented his coaches with what might be the best “late to practice” excuse in the books – a written note signed by the two baseball mentors.

Both coaches were absolutely delighted, taking pictures and messaging the family about their unexpected surprise. The late to practice excuse worked and Ronn’s son promptly joined the rest of his team on the baseball diamond.

Before the end of practice, the boy shared the one word of advice he was given from Pete Rose with his teammates and coaches. That bit of advice?

“Never miss a batting practice.”
