How To Get Involved In Undergraduate Research

Here at the University of Kentucky there is always lots of really cool research going on on campus! Below are some tips on how to get involved as an undergraduate!

1. The Office of Undergraduate Research

This a great resource to find out about different research opportunities. They hold information sessions to help you learn how to reach out to different professors and labs and inquire about getting involved!

2. Talk to your professors

If you have a professor you really like, ask if they are doing research! Often even if they don't have space in their lab, they will know someone who does!

3. Start looking early

Labs sometimes fill up quickly with undergraduates, so start reaching out to professors early the semester BEFORE you want to start researching.

4. Offer to meet with professors and talk about their research- and read about their lab before you go!

5. Find a research project you are genuinely interested in

Research requires long hours and commitment, so make sure the lab you join is researching something you are truly passionate about.
