Russian makeup artist Elya Bulochka recently posted pictures on Instagram from a mermaid-inspired shoot.
According to the Daily Mail, the MUA posted a now-deleted picture that "held up a transparent bag filled with the newly-purchased creatures" with the caption "Guess what I'm going to be wearing today?"
This upset animal rights activists, who began leaving heated comments on her photos, like this...

Elya responded with a photo of a model's face from the shoot side-by-side with a photo of her face covered in sardines to "play a game of double standards."
She continued to post photos from the shoot — the most recent with a long caption regarding humanity: "We were blamed for inhumanity, we are torn into pieces in comments and media, and we are insulted, even cursed."
But arguments aside, we do know one thing for sure...
Real mermaids treat their aquatic friends with some serious respect.
