Angela Bassett, Mick Jagger, And Other Celebrities Reacting To Tina Turner's Death

    Angela Bassett issued a statement after news of Tina's death was announced.

    The entertainment world is mourning the loss of legendary singer, dancer, and artist Tina Turner, who died today at age 83.

    Tributes for the "Proud Mary" singer poured out online after news of her death broke.

    Angela Bassett said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter that she was "honored to have known Tina" and "humbled to have helped show her to the world" when she played Tina in the 1993 biopic What's Love Got to Do with It.

    "I’m so saddened by the passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner," Mick Jagger tweeted. "She was truly an enormously talented performer and singer. She was inspiring, warm, funny and generous. She helped me so much when I was young and I will never forget her."

    Mariah Carey remembered Tina as "an incredible performer, musician, and trailblazer." She added: "To me, she will always be a survivor and an inspiration to women everywhere. Her music will continue to inspire generations to come. Rest in Peace, Queen."

    Forest Whitaker said Tina was an "icon, whom we loved for her voice, her dancing, and her spirit. ... Thank you for sharing your gifts with us, Tina. You're simply the best."

    Magic Johnson called Tina one of his "favorite artists" ever. "I’ve seen her many many times and hands down, she gave one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen. She always gave you your money's worth," he said.

    Halle Berry recalled meeting Tina at an event in the early 2000s. "I’ll never forget this day at the Legends Ball when I met Tina Turner!" she captioned a photo of them together. "She rearranged me with her conversation, her spirit, her depth of character, her grace and most of all her ability to be ordinary and a LEGEND at the time! The world will be missing one bright light tonight! 🙏🏽"

    Ciara tweeted that "heaven has gained an angel" and thanked Tina "for the inspiration [she] gave us all."

    Kelly Rowland shared a similar sentiment on Instagram, thanking Tina "for giving us [her] all." "We love you!!" she added.

    Sheryl Lee Ralph said the news had hit her "hard" as she retweeted posts paying tribute to Tina.

    Jennifer Hudson wrote on Twitter that it was a "sad day" for music.

    "The world is a less better place without this legendary, gorgeous resilient woman," Tina Knowles-Lawson wrote as she shared photos of Beyoncé performing with the late singer at the 2008 Grammys. "She was 'Simply The Best.'"
