Which Back To School Global Tradition Should You Try This Year?

At the beginning of every school year (in September) German kids receive a Schultuete which is a "school cone" filled with school supplies and lollies!

At the beginning of elementary school kids recieve a randoseru or a sturdy backpack that is either brand new or handed down through the family.

Japan

Every school year in Russia is called the "Day of Knowledge" where kids gift their teachers flowers and receive balloons in return.

Of course it's bike related! In The Netherlands on the first day of school parents drive their kids to school in a bakfiesten or a cargo bike.

On the first day of school Italians go shopping for a grembiule or a "work smock" that's blue for boys and pink for girls.

Australian kids go back to school after a long Christmas and Summer break in late January/early February. Aussies wear uniforms to save time getting ready in the morning and pack their own lunches with a Vegemite sandwich.

Brazilians go back to school in February, after the summer. There is an annual rush for school supplies at the same time every year so much so that the prices rise by 500% each year.

They start school at age 5 and don't stop for another 11 years learning everything there is to know about their "Communist Morality" and the government.

North Korea

French kids have it pretty easy. They have a 2 hour lunch starting with a starter, main meal, dessert and cheese each day which they can either have in the cantine (cafeteria) or at home. Schools close most Wednesdays and are open for half days on Saturday.

The first day back to school is so crazy that every year they have to run more train services at even earlier times to beat the morning early rush.
