How Many Of These Skin-Care Myths Have You Bought Into?

It's about as hard as trying not to pick at a rogue zit, tbh.

  1. Correct!

    It's true!

Using a gentle cleanser — like an oil-based cleanser or micellar water, for instance — to remove your makeup, then washing your face with a second cleanser to get dirt and grime out of your skin is the best way to make sure your pores stay unclogged and your skin stays healthy. (Make sure to lotion up after!)

  2. Correct!

    That one's false.

There are different waves that can affect your skin, and you should be looking for a product containing broad-spectrum sunscreen that will protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays. A rating of 15 or above works great.

  3. Correct!

    Completely false!

There are many drugstore brands that are as good as, or better, for your skin than fancy-pants brands. You can get incredible skin care for a totally affordable price at most of the places you love to shop already.

  4. Correct!

    Totally false.

It depends on the product, but any product usually takes some time — around two months, really — to show a difference in your skin. However, if you're having a negative reaction like irritation, discontinue use and talk to your doctor!

  5. Correct!

Acne happens because of a combination of hormonal and oil production issues, not because your hygiene is poor. In fact, over-scrubbing your face or using super-harsh cleansers can irritate your skin and make acne worse, not better. Be kind to your skin and use a gentle cleanser specifically formulated for acne!

  6. Correct!

Staying hydrated is key to developing that ~healthy glow~. Drinking water makes your whole body feel better, not just your skin!

  7. Correct!

Step away from the hot water!

Especially for those of us with sensitive, dry, or eczema-prone skin, frequent showering strips your skin of your essential oil barrier and can dry you out more quickly. Shower daily at most — every other day is even better, but hey, #sweaty — and always moisturize after you shower.
