Nursing School OSCE's As Told By The Office

Ain't no stress like an OSCE stress...

When the OSCE skills get announced and you realize you know nothing

When you realize you don’t know what OSCE stands for

When you try to describe the stress of an OSCE to someone not in nursing

When you have the bright idea to go to practice lab for some stress-free skills practice

When you arrive at practice lab and see the crowd

When you try to do skills at practice lab

When you're trying to probe the practice lab instructors for information about the OSCE stations

When you reach that weird mood in practice lab where everything is just JOKES

When it's 2 weeks before the OSCE

When it's 1 week before the OSCE

When you're practicing skills with your friends and you can feel tensions start to build due to the stress

When it's the night before the OSCE

When you're walking to your OSCE and you run into someone who just did their's, but they don't tell you what the stations were

When you arrive at your OSCE waiting room and wait for your name to be called

When you're in the waiting room trying to gage the reaction of people coming in who have just finished their OSCE

Giving yourself a pep talk right before walking into the OSCE room

When you’re in the room trying to decipher the Kardex to figure out what the heck you’re supposed to be doing

When you walk into the "patient's room" and greet the mannequin totally not awkwardly at all

When you're making a medication calculation, and type 2 divided by 1 into the calculator

When you're trying to don/ doff your PPE

When you almost forget patient identifiers, but still feel like a boss because you stated that you would give the patient privacy by drawing the curtain

When you ask the evaluator if they want you to re-verbalize your second medication check and they're just like

When you forget your third med check and hand hygiene

When you find out that you have to open a sterile field in one station

When you accidentally spill your normal saline and completely compromise your sterile field

When you trip over every single word you're trying to say but you can feel the clock ticking away

When you break sterility but the evaluator doesn’t see it

When one station required you to give a medication you’ve never heard of and you realize that you don’t have a clue what’s going on

    When you mess up terribly

When you glance at your evaluator to get a feel for how you’re doing and they’re just sitting there like

When the evaluator tells you you have 1 minute left and you know you haven’t done 4/6 of the necessary skills

When you run out of time but word vomit everything you ~would have~ done

When your evaluator is giving you feedback on your station, and you’re just like “did i pass tho?”

When its announced to you that you are "fortunate enough to have the opportunity to retry this station”

When you find out you failed your OSCE

When you find out you passed your OSCE

When you pass but realize you need to leave immediately before the evaluator figures out something you messed up

When you walk out of your OSCE feeling like a the perfect mix of Florence Nightingale and Meredith Grey

When your popularity rises immediately after your OSCE as evidenced by every person you know calling you asking you about it

When you find out your friend failed and you have no idea how to comfort them

When it dawns on you that the OSCE was pass/ fail and now you have a 30% midterm tomorrow and a 25% paper due next week

When you realize that you and your best buds have (barely) made it through another year of OSCE’s and nursing school

Dedicated to the one and only legend, C.W., for making it through 4 years of nursing school while managing to never fail an OSCE. Love you dawg.
