10 Reasons We Love Welsh Varsity

It's back in town for 2017 and here's why we love it...

1. It's back on home turf!

After two years in Swansea, Varsity returns to Cardiff! No need to get on a coach to deepest, darkest Swansea… just take a stroll into town to watch the games!

2. The atmosphere

The buzz on Varsity day is simply the best – excitement and rivalry all rolled into one.

3. The chants

Whilst we can’t actively promote the chants towards Swansea on game day… we do love them! We want #TeamCardiff to be THE loudest so get practicing.

4. The day games

With over 30 games and matches happening throughout the day there’s loads to go and watch!

5. Spending the day with friends

Varsity is a great day when everyone is in the same place at the same time! You’re bound to bump into someone you lived with in first year, or that stranger you always see in YOLO. Term is coming to an end and it’s a perfect way to get everyone together.

6. The Rugby Games

A great ending to the best day. All Cardiff and Swansea fans in one place, the chants, Mexican waves and high spirits. Whether you’re clued up or clueless about rugby, it’ll be a tense evening. For the first time this year the Ladies rugby will also be in the Principality stadium!

7. The half-time entertainment

With a great performance from the Snakecharmers and various other dance performances, everyone is pumped for the game. Don’t forget to look out for the mascots.

8. The photographic evidence

There’s nothing worse than waking up the day after Varsity, feeling a little sorry for yourself, and checking what beautiful snaps you thought should grace Snapchat… but it’s all part of the fun! We’ll be snapping from the ‘cardiffstudents’ Snapchat and posting on Instagram and Twitter all day, so keep an eye out… you might become Insta famous.

9. The face paint

We’ve seen our fair share of red face paint over the years, from the standard army stripes to ‘Team Cardiff’ across the torsos of Cardiff fans. We’re hoping this year won’t disappoint…

10. The After party

Whether #TeamCardiff are winners or not, our after party is THE place to be to celebrate another great Welsh Varsity. This year, we’re opening the entire building and letting you party it up in Y Plas, The Great Hall and Y Stiwdio! It’s going to be HUGE!
