Why Do These Four Book About Society Make The World A Better Place?

There are a lot of stories and novels that reflect on society. One example is seeing if society could be better than it already is or how lucky we are that it isn't worse.

Witch and Wizard Author: James Patterson

Witch and Wizard is the first book of a trilogy. Witch and Wizard tells the story of two kids discovering powers that they receive from their parents. However, before anything else happens government agents storm into their house and place the kids and their parents under arrest. The kids find out that a new government party won the election and the whole system has been corrupted. This book demonstrates that society can be manipulated by the government or any ruling power very easily. This book also demonstrates that everyone can be affected by the slightest shift in power.

Hunger Games Author: Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games is one of three books in a trilogy. The protagonist Katness Everdeen is in a world were America fell apart as a country and the country "Panem" was formed. Panem is a dictatorship that has twelve districts with Katness being in that district. District one is the most richest district along with district twelve being the poorest district. Every year district one picks a boy and a girl from each district and has them all fight to the death in an arena. This books shows that the worst things can comes out of the greatest in and out of society. This book also shows that one district rules over all the districts and shows dictatorship throughout the whole series.

The Giver Author: Lois Lowry

The Giver takes place in a Utopian society called the "Community" which later revealed as a Dystopian society . In the Community the story follows a boy named Jonas who is selected for a very important job. This job is called the "Receiver" who carries memories from someone known as the "Giver". The reason these two carry memories is because the government fears that the community can't handle the raw emotions. As Jonas starts receiving memories he realizes that the Community is being controlled, almost mindless. This book shows that society can be manipulated and controlled by the government no matter what the cost. This book also demonstrates how people can be so blind by the government because of how Jonas is the only one that feels and sees these emotions. This book also represents how Jonas is special apart from everyone else.

The DaVinci Code Author: Dan Brown

The DaVinci Code revolves around conspiracy theories about the Christian religion and some of the figures in it. The story starts off with symbologist Robert Langdon and cryptologist Sophie Nevue, these two are called to the Louvre in Paris after the murder of Jacques Sauniere. Little did they know that a religious group called Opus Dei was responsible for the murder and is after a religious object in the Christian culture called the "Holy Grail". Unknown to what they were getting themselves into Robert and Sophie try to find the murderers but they are unaware to how big the religious group really is and that there are enemies everywhere. This book connects with society because it shows that some of the biggest enemies can be hidden in plain sight. Another way this book connects with society is that people can turn other people against you if you aren't careful, that alone also shows the flaws in our society.
