    How Anxiety Is Killing Productivity

    Anxiety has become a huge problem, but it is not that noticeable until it impacts one’s productivity. Workplace anxiety has become a serious problem for people because it may end up impacting their productivity and ultimately their overall job performance. What we all know is that worrying is not just a normal occurrence. But, if left unchecked it could escalate into something called anxiety disorder. There can be many sources of anxiety. Many people worry a lot about their jobs, problems at home or about their relationships both professional and personal. And, all these worries can negatively impact their workplace productivity. A workplace can become toxic when anxiety has been used to push the workers to respond and produce. Having anxiety can make workers ineffective. People may not be able to work their way up the corporate ladder because they are being taken aback by the anxiety they feel. Some events at the office such as meetings, hitting certain performance metrics, and the inability to meet deadlines may end up causing anxieties which may wreak havoc to a person’s productivity. Placed in difficult situations People with anxiety problems are subjected to difficult situation. Feeling stress and anxiety in the workplace is completely normal. It is a matter of being able to manage or control the stress and anxiety the person is getting from the workplace. When anxiety becomes persistent, overwhelming, and too much to bear—it may end up not just disrupting productivity. But, it can also end up impacting one’s personal life too. When persons are anxious the ability to think straight may be impaired. Persons that are subjected to anxiety may not be able to think rationally especially under pressure. In turn, there could be decisions that are poorly made. Anxiety leads the brain to use its lower regions which in turn makes people think less straight. Finding ways to control anxiety in the workplace In essence, we feel anxious on the things that are not within our control. If we are in control of things, the less anxious we will be. The key here is to develop more self-confidence and to develop a better ability to handle situation. It would be less tense for you any person to anticipate the results of any action. There is anxiety coming from any activity that you are not able to anticipate the end result. In order to avoid stress, make sure you are able to do the task right the first time. This will save you trouble and the risk of having to redo your work. When engaging in projects it pays to slow down. Do not over commit on something that you think you cannot accomplish. Never be shy to ask for help from a co-worker. In essence, communication can be a good thing for you to reach out and get help with your anxiety. There are plenty of ways to control anxiety in the workplace. The key here is to control the reason for the anxiety in order to improve on the productivity. It is never the other way around.
