Why "Are You Jealous?" By Roberto H. Roquer Is One Of The Most Relevant Shorts You Can Watch On-Line Right Now?

This short film, made by an L.A. based Spanish director, offers a very interesting picture of sex, gender, and sexuality in the context of show business.

In the recent years, streaming platforms such as Netflix or Amazon video offer new young creators a great chance to distribute their work. More often than not, we are talking about films, series or shorts that would never make it into the mainstream market. And if you have enough patience, you can find very interesting things.

Few weeks ago, a friend of mine from Pittsburg texted me. After talking with me for a while, she told me that she just came back from spending the weekend on the Pittsburg Independent Film Festival and there was a short she was unable to take out of her mind. The title of the film was "Are you Jealous?" and the synopsis was crazy, a story set on a reality TV show where two participants must have sex on life TV in order to get the jackpot. Who would ever refuse to watch such a show?

Well, few weeks later, I had a chance to watch the short on Amazon Video and let me tell you something, you should be watching it right now. Is not only that it has great acting, a very solid script or great cinematography. It puts on the table very deep ideas about choice and free will, about how we as society consume sex on the media and how corporate America takes advantage of that. During the 20 minutes that it lasts, Roberto H. Roquer manages to keep the interest up all the time and by the end of the film we are really rooting for the protagonist despite he is a very dark person. However, is the ending where the real magic comes in. As a viewer, is impossible for me not to think "What would I do in this situation" and, therefore, " Where is the line between what I can and can´t do under a certain level of pressure?

If you also want to make this questions to yourself, then go and check "Are you Jealous?" on Amazon Video Direct.
