Flume Used His Arias Acceptance Speech To Slam Sydney's Lockout Laws

"To our policy makers and our politicians, please keep Sydney open."

On Wednesday night during the Aria Awards, Australian DJ Flume used his acceptance speech for Best Dance Release to address Sydney's lockout laws.

He explained that music evolves in small venues, and that he wants other artists to be able to perform in those spaces.

People were quick to agree with Flume's message.

#ARIAs Agree with @flumemusic Keep the small venues alive. Not just Sydney though. But right round the country

I’m not a huge fan of Flume but that Keep Sydney Open acceptance speech was so good #ARIAs

Flume with a powerful message for Sydney with his second Aria tonight :) #ARIAS #flume

But some couldn't help but point out the irony.

Flume asking to "please keep Sydney open" ironically in the only venue exempt from the lock out laws #TheStar #ARIAs
