There are skateboard accessories like truck, bearings, wheels, kick tails etc. In this article i will discuss about the structure and features of the skateboard accessories. Deck width of the skateboard – On average, a skateboard is 7.5 to 8.5 inches in widths. More is the width, better is its stability. But that will make it more challenging. Wheel base: A truck in skateboard is measured with this parameter. The distance between mounted trucks is called the wheel base. A wider base makes a greater spinning radius and suitable for skateboarders of long legs. Truck height Truck height is that one of the skateboard accessories factor where we are to be concerned about its height. Low – A lower truck height favors flip tricks to the fullest extent and also provides better steadiness. This type of height synchronizes better with smaller dia wheels since it prevents “wheel bite.” chances. This is appropriate for learners since a lower truck height lowers the center of gravity and thus stabilizes more. Medium – This is the conventional height of truck for all-rounder skateboarding. For skateboarding on parks and streets, this is best suited. They are of very much versatility. High – A higher truck height is best for carving and cruising. But it is not suitable to flip tricks. Axle width: Magnitude of the axle, i.e. thickness of it should be corresponding to the magnitude of the skateboard deck. Bushings It’s an important skateboard accessories which helps in fixing the kingpin nut. Hard bushings act like they are harder to turn but softer bushings make easier revolving. There are usually two bushings in a truck. Of them one is hard bushing and another is soft. Wheels There are two factors to be considered in choosing a wheel. Diameter: Wheels of various styles and sizes correspond to different skateboarding styles. Durometer: This is simply a measurement of the wheels’ hardness. Durometer A indicates soft wheels whereas harder are denoted by durometer B. Soft wheels (88A - 94A) – Soft wheels are best for jagged surfaces and on cracks, pebbles and grits. They are not eligible for technical tricks and street Harder wheels (95A - 100A) – Wheels under this range are harder and subjected to less amount of friction. This is highly appropriate for technical tricks, surfing on streets, parks, verts etc. Bearings This is a vital one of the skateboard accessories. Performance of bearings is measured with a number associated to them called ABEC(Annular Bearing Engineer’s Committee). Speed range of bearings are thus categorized by ABEC ranges of number 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9. If you are a beginner then get bearings of ABEC 3 or ABEC 5. Higher numbers are for the pros.
