If You Hate Cooking, Here Are 32 Kitchen Products That'll Make The Experience A Whole Lot More Enjoyable

Like a strainer that clips right onto your pot so you don't have to awkwardly pour a giant vat of hot pasta into a colander.

    1. A downright magical veggie chopper that'll 100% become your new BFF when you realize that by owning it, you'll finally be relieved of your least favorite kitchen task forever. It'll cut down on vegetable prep time by a ton, and if you're an onion crier like me, well, no more standing over a cutting board with stinging eyes.

It comes with seven interchangeable inserts for dicing both soft and firm produce, as well as making spirals (hello, zoodles!) and ribbons. PLUS, it has a juicer, egg splitter, yolk separator, hand peeler, and blade organizer!

Check out a TikTok of the veggie chopper in action. BTW, Fullstar is a small business established in 2017 that specializes in kitchen gadgets.

Promising review: "I absolutely love it! Where has this been for my adult cooking life with five kids!!! Highly recommend! I chop the peppers in half, then quarter. Place in the chopper, and voila, you have perfectly chopped peppers, onions, even tomatoes, but they are a bit mushier. The egg slicer works well, too. Love that the measurements are on the side, so you know how many cups you have chopped. Easy to clean out! It’s making cooking a pleasure!" —Daniella Hm Serven

    2. A ~sea-riously~ useful crab utensil rest for keeping your countertops mess-free. Just hook it onto the edges of your pots and pans and place your saucy stirring spoons in its eager little claws. Oh, and it also acts as a steam releaser by propping up your pot lids — not to mention, it's the cutest little cooking cheerleader there ever was.

Psst: It also stands up on flat surfaces, so you can use it around your home!

Promising review: "I had no idea what to expect when I purchased this. When it arrived, it was instantly one of the cutest things I'd ever seen. My husband did not think it would be able to hold spoons, spatulas, lids, etc. But IT DOES! It doesn't fall over and can hold the lid and a spoon or spatula at the same time. It is rather small, but its size is what makes it so great. It takes up no room and does a great job. I love this little guy!" —boogersmom

Get it from Amazon for $13.35.

    3. A set of silicone oven rack edge protectors, because if you've ever bumped your wrist against one of those searing hot pieces of metal while checking on your roast chicken, you know how seriously it burns. These are made of food-grade silicone and will keep that from ever happening again!

Promising review: "These things are awesome. Not only are they attractive and reasonably priced, but are so easy to put on and they stay on the rack. Most important, I find they help to protect your arm from getting any bad burns when reaching into the oven. 5. A game-changing Snap N' Strain, which will make pouring out excess liquids a heck of a lot less anxiety-inducing. Since it clips right onto your bowl or cooking vessel, you won't be holding a hot, heavy pot of pasta with one hand and steadying an unnecessary colander with the other.

It also has a spout so you can control how much liquid you pour out, and its compact design won't take up much storage space!

Promising review: "Typically, I am not a fan of one-trick kitchen utensils. But this thing is a game-changer!! Regular strainers are clunky and take up too much space, plus pouring scalding hot liquid into them with heavy food splashing around is dangerous and messy. This eliminates that. Seriously, how have I lived my life without this? I remember making a very large and heavy batch of soup stock and it was difficult enough to just lift the pot and pour, let alone safely into a strainer that could easily move or tip over if I poured too quickly…but this baby made the transfer so easy it’s almost laughable that anyone would use a normal strainer these days! It’s sturdy, it stays in place, it's small, lightweight, won’t rust, easy to clean, doesn’t burn your hands after being submersed in liquid fire. What else could you ask for in a strainer? Enough already, just buy it!" —Kellu

Get it from Amazon for $12.99+ (available in four colors).

    6. A hands-free electric can opener, because preparing a meal is much more enjoyable when you're not exerting all of your upper body strength just to open up a dang can of chickpeas. Once you try this, you'll never think about hand cranking again.

Reviewers with arthritis say this gadget is really helpful — and don't forget the AA batteries!

Promising review: "Great for arthritic hands. Life changing!!! I open dog food cans daily and pumpkin cans to mix with the dog food. My old hands couldn’t take it anymore! This little gadget does it ALL! Set it on top of the can, push the button, and walk away!! AND! NO SHARP EDGES!!" —Tammy Richardson

Another promising review: "Such an easy way to open cans. This will reduce my cooking time! I would shy away from cans at grocery stores because I had such a hard time using my mechanical can opener. They were risky and left sharp edges that could hurt anyone. This can opener is a godsend. It comes with an instruction manual that clearly shows how to use it. It's super simple. I got it out of the box, inserted four AA batteries, and it was good to go. This is very user-friendly, no sharp edges, and gives a clean cut. I love love love it. To everyone who is thinking about getting one, it's a little more expensive than the manual ones, but well worth it. It will save your hands!" —liberty

This handy thing quarters a bunch at once so you can use your extra time to mix up a quick vinaigrette!

Get it from Amazon for $11.95.

    9. An automatic pan stirrer, which will let you focus on prepping other ingredients rather than babysitting your low-and-slow sauce over the stove. And don't worry — it has a built-in timer so you won't completely forget about it and end up with charred marinara. The future is now!

BuzzFeed Shopping writer Emma Lord says: "I've owned one of these babies and have faithfully used it every week for upward of two years, and especially love it while working from home — it simplifies breakfast because I know no matter what assortment of groceries I'm working with, there are precooked eggs to add some protein to it (I like mine medium-boiled 🍳). If my dinner is boring or seems like it needs a little extra "oomph" to it, I'll throw in an egg from this, too. Some reviews note that the alarm on it is a little loud, but the new models have significantly decreased the volume and sing a little song instead!"

Promising review: "I saw someone on TikTok with this and gasped! Ordered it right away. I had no idea these things existed. Super easy and convenient and the hard-boiled eggs came out perfectly. I’m testing a batch now without punching a hole in the eggs to see how they come out. Because why not make an easy process even easier?!?! LOL." —Gina

Get it from Amazon for $19.99+ (available in eight colors).

    11. Or a delightful (and space-saving) singing egg timer that, yes, ~literally~ sings to inform you that your eggs are at the perfect jammy stage. Just place it into the water with your eggs, turn the heat on, and go do something else within hearing distance. Depending on the song it plays, you'll know if your eggs are soft-, medium-, or hard-boiled!

Promising review: "I bought one of these several years ago and have enjoyed it so much I purchased more for friends and family. It's very accurate. You just put it in the water with the eggs and it plays three tunes, one for soft-boiled, one for medium, and one for hard-boiled. Each tune plays three times. For instance, if you want hard-boiled eggs, you listen for 'Hail Hail the Gang's All Here' to play for the third time, and the eggs will be perfectly hard-boiled. It's the most accurate egg timer I've ever had." —LM

    12. A patience-saving pair of herb scissors, because why should you painstakingly mince all of those teeny-tiny parsley leaves when this nifty gadget can do it for you? These scissors have five blades, so chop chop!

reviewer holding the green pair of scissors over a container of finely chopped herbs
reviewer using the scissors to cut up herbs over a salad bowl

It also comes with a comb to clean the leaves out from between the blades!

Promising review: "I like to grow herbs and use them in salads, soups, and many other recipes. I received these herb scissors as a birthday gift, and can't believe how fast and easy it is to cut up cilantro, basil, parsley, lovage, etc. My husband tried them today too for the first time while making guacamole, and found that slicing the cilantro went very quickly. The storage case-cleaner is very efficiently designed, too. I ordered four of these sets to give as gifts." —Lucille P. Nawara

gif of reviewer pouring liquid into the measuring cup from overhead, since the measurements can be seen from above

It's also BPA-free, and while it's *technically* dishwasher-safe, some reviewers say they suggest hand-washing to keep the measurements from fading over time.

Promising review: "I love this measuring cup so much I want to marry it. I cook and bake a lot, and my eyes are getting old and they don't want to see those little marks on measuring tools, and my hands shake so it is barely possible to hold up a cup and squint to see the measurements. I can see these bold red numbers very well, and I can leave the cup on the cabinet while I measure. I feel like it changed my life in a small way. Nothing bad to say about this little beauty." —nesmith52

They're very handy, allowing you to chop easily and then pour your fruit and veggies pieces into whatever container you desire without spilling." —Anne P.

Another promising review: "I purchased this for my grandma, and she really likes it. She has arthritis in her hands, so the way that the handle is raised helps her pick it up. She also loves the way it folds so she can dump everything in, and the green color helps her find it in the kitchen." —Joyce Cotton

    18. An *essential* pair of onion goggles, because if you've ever found yourself sobbing through a mountain of onions while preparing dinner, you're gonna be so grateful you made the investment. Sure, they might look a little funny, but they'll keep the tear-causing fumes from reaching your eyes!

BuzzFeeder wearing the black and green onion goggles
reviewer wearing the goggles while chopping onions
    Britt Ross / BuzzFeed, www.amazon.com

As you can see from the ~extremely~ stylish photo above, I own these very goggles! Ok, maybe they're not the coolest-looking accessories in the world, but NONETHELESS (!) they are an absolute lifesaver if you suffer from painful eye stinging and tearing while slicing those alliums. I used to avoid recipes that called for any onion that wasn't a scallion because I hated preparing onions with all my might, but once these entered my life, I found myself chopping away with ease. The key is to make sure the goggles create a really tight seal around your eyes — I have a smaller head, so I sometimes have to really push them on to make sure they're airtight, but once I figured this out, it was a total game changer. Will you feel super silly while you have 'em on? Yes! Will you care after you see your finished pile of onions that were chopped without shedding a single tear? No! And if I'm willing to plaster myself wearing them all over BuzzFeed, you can definitely wear them in the privacy of your own kitchen. I highly recommend them to anyone who also suffers from onion tears!

Promising review: "I am about as sensitive to onion enzymes as a person can possibly be, and I have tried everything. A friend got these and posted a picture of herself with them and I had to look them up. They're definitely not as cheap as some swimming goggles but MAN are they worth it! These goggles are more like safety glasses, so they are easier to take on and off and are much more comfortable than actual goggles. I wasn't sure the soft foam around the inside would actually keep the onion enzymes out, since my face and head are decidedly on the small side, but it did! And lastly, they were crystal clear the whole time so I could take my time cutting my onions perfectly, rather than the hacking they usually get as I try to be done as quickly as possible." —Liz Lare

Get them from Amazon for $17.78+ (available in five colors).

    19. A sleek oil dispenser with — get this — a neat little measuring pump so you don't have to scrounge around for (and dirty up) any measuring spoons whenever you're following a recipe. You're so very welcome.

gif of reviewer pressing a button on the oil dispenser to measure the oil

To use, just hold the button until the oil in the measuring cup reaches the amount you need. Plus, it comes with an olive oil mister that'll help you get light, even coverage on your pans.

Promising review: "This product is easy to use and is the perfect addition to any kitchen! I love how easily I can measure out olive oil and how smoothly it comes out of the bottle. It is great for cooking or for drizzling over salads! Not only is it easy to use, but it also looks nice in the kitchen. Unlike a plastic olive oil bottle, this dispenser is a beautiful addition to my counter top. Also, for anyone who is interested in measuring out their olive oil without needing to constantly pull out a tablespoon, this is the perfect dispenser for you! The spray bottle is also great for cooking! I love that I know exactly what comes out of the spray bottle, rather than a store-bought spray bottle with additives. 10/10 would recommend!" —Clotilde D.

Promising review: "A garlic press??? Do you need a garlic press? The answer is YES, YES, YES!! This is a great garlic press combo set. It is made of very good, strong aluminum construction. It feels good in the hand, nice weight, and very easy to use. I have used it four or five times. It is designed with two holes, one that crushes the garlic, the second to slice the garlic. Both holes work great. The handle is nice and sturdy, easy to use. The durability factor is great. It comes with a little brush and a little cleaning tool to assist with cleaning. It makes cleaning fast and easy. It does a great job with any garlic that is stuck in the press. It does well in the dishwasher, too. I love the silicone peeler tube. 25. And a pair of extra-long oven mitts, because as someone who used to bake for a living, take it from me: Your wrists and forearms are the most vulnerable when it comes to kitchen burns, so it's wise to keep those areas as covered up as possible when you're reaching deep into your oven!

Promising review: "There is nothing to dislike about these oven mitts. They arrived quickly and I use them every day. I've baked cookies and bread and roasted meat and veggies without a single burn, which is a first for me. These long mitts protect way up on my arms and they are very flexible...no more pans slipping out of my hands because of padded cotton mitts that are too bulky to allow for a good grip. I will never use anything but these mitts, and I'm buying some for my daughter as well!" —Georgia grandma

Get them from Amazon for $15.68+ (available in six colors, as well as in a slightly smaller size).

    26. A Philips compact pasta maker that'll let you enjoy spaghetti from scratch, minus the whole "rolling out dough by hand" thing. No messy, floured-up counter, and watching the noodles as they're being extruded is almost as satisfying as slurping down your carb-y creations.

GIF of reviewer slicing pasta that's being extruded through the pasta maker
reviewer photo of two plates of homemade spaghetti with a tomato meat sauce

This handy device does all the work for you, so if you're anything like me (a pasta fiend), it'll quickly become the most beloved thing in your kitchen. It comes with shaping discs for spaghetti, fettuccine, penne, pappardelle, tagliatelle, angel hair, and lasagna — mamma mia! Plus, there's an included recipe book for meal inspiration.

Promising review: "I was just as skeptical as you are. I, too, have been doing the old school — make the dough, roll it out, run it through a pasta machine, etc. — method. It's a production, all for AMAZING pasta. With this, you put the ingredients in, push a button, and watch for AMAZING pasta to be extruded. I had hoped I'd be able to multitask a bit more, but it extrudes so fast there isn't much time for other tasks between cutting it. But I think that seems reasonable. The other thing to consider is that you have to be VERY exact with the measurements of the ingredients. I've found weighing them works best. The recipes in the included book work great. Don't use other pasta recipes not developed for this machine unless you are up for some experimentation. The dough will be drier than the traditional method and has to be to feed through the auger and extrude properly. So it also does take a bit longer to cook than traditional fresh pasta, but when it's done it's that same amazing taste and texture!" —Conversio

Get it from Amazon for $152.99+ (available in black or white).

    27. KitchenAid immersion blender, aka Fairy Godmother: Soup Edition, since it'll transform your chunky vegetable concoctions into silky smooth purees. Plus, it'll keep you from burning yourself, since you won't be — eek! — transferring a big batch of piping hot soup to a standing blender.

I own the blue immersion blender, and as someone who's just 5 feet tall and has practically zero upper body strength, I find that it's been a total game-changer. Now, whenever I want a smooth sauce or silky soup, all I have to do is stick this bad boy into the pot, press a button, and presto! No more having to muster up all my strength to lift a heavy pot, and then pour hot liquid from it into a blender (I mean, disaster waiting to happen). Oh, and it's SO easy to clean, plus the pretty blue hue makes me happy every time I use it!

Promising review: "Best immersion blender I've used! This thing is so powerful! Smoothly blended my roasted butternut squash, onion, and celery to make a bisque. I love the pan guard so I can blend right in the pot and it doesn’t scratch. It was very easy to use and clean. Highly recommend." —Annabelle

Promising review: "Quick and easy dumplings. I used this to make Peking dumplings. My girlfriend summed it up best when she called the result 'perfect.' Very simple to use!" —Karen C

Another promising review: "Great size and so easy to use. Made pierogi and they came out great. Just use the open circle to punch out the dough, then put the dough circle on top, add filling, and fold! I found it worked best when you stretch the dough circle just a little to make sure the edges line up, and my recipe suggested wetting the edges slightly to help make a better seal. Also you don't need quite as much filling as you might think. I popped it in the dishwasher (top rack) when I was done and it escaped clean and unharmed. For the price it was well worth it. Don't want to imagine how messy everything would have looked if I had tried with just my hands." —Emily

Kitchen Cube was founded in Minneapolis by a group of entrepreneurs who were tired of having a bunch of measuring tools cluttering up and getting lost in their drawers!

Promising review: "First of all I gotta say, I don’t cook much, and if there’s something I hate after cooking it's having to wash a bunch of utensils once I use them. This cube has been amazing; I don’t have to wash a million utensils over and over, it’s very easy to use, easy to clean, and it’s very handy to use when I’m meal prepping for the week. I bought this out of curiosity and ended up enjoying it a lot. Promising review: "I am one of the messiest cooks in the world. When I get done, I usually have scraps around my feet where I have knocked bits of veggies off the counter. I've looked for a long time for something to take care of the problem, but everything seemed like overkill. This container is perfect. It's just the right size. I attach it in front of my belly, and all the stuff that usually hits the floor, goes in the container. Plus, I can wipe the counter into it, empty it in the trash, and pop it in the dishwasher." —Patricia Logos

This affordable version has thousands of great reviews, and it's waterproof, has a nonslip bottom, and is super easy to clean.

Promising review: "For over a year, we've been cooking more meals in our kitchen, and the tile floor is very hard on our legs when you are just standing by the sink washing and prepping foods, not to mention washing dishes, etc. This kitchen mat relieves leg fatigue. So much so, no one is complaining about it anymore. Really such a good value compared to all the other more expensive alternatives. My only advice is when you receive the mat, to put it on a flat surface and weigh the edges down for a day or two, since it has a tendency to curl up after you unpack it. Other than that, it's great." —C. Cruz
