New Zealand police officers have shot and killed an Auckland Airport security dog after he broke loose and staff were unable to catch him.
Grizz the security dog had delayed 16 domestic and international flights after he was first reported loose at 4am.
New Zealand Police were acting in a supporting role when airport staff and aviation security instructed them to shoot Grizz.
"Our thoughts are with the AVSEC dog handler involved," said inspector Tracy Phillips from the Counties Manukau District Police Force.
