In a Facebook post, Geoff Brooks, who posted the photos that went viral, said he was not the one who took them.

However, he did comment that he couldn't confirm how the shark was killed.

Real or not, the shark looks like an absolute monster.

The post claimed that the shark was being sent to the CSIRO for inspection, but the CSIRO say no one has been in contact with them.

Speaking to BuzzFeed News, a spokesperson for the CSIRO said they had not been handed any shark, and that all they could do was identify it as a tiger shark.

The Daily Telegraph reports that they have had multiple people come forward claiming it was them who took the photos, with the exact location also changing between Seven Mile Beach, Tweed Heads, and Byron Bay itself.

BuzzFeed News has contacted the Cape Byron Marine Park regarding the shark and is awaiting a response.
