People Will Be Able To Smoke Hunter S. Thompson's Personal Weed Strain Soon

    In legal states, of course.

Anita Thompson, the widow of famed gonzo reporter and writer Hunter S. Thompson, has confirmed her plans to sell a strain of cannabis using strains from her late husband's personal collection.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Thompson discussed her recent takeover of Owl Farm, the property where Hunter S. Thompson wrote many of his most famous works, and her plan to create a "Gonzo strain" of cannabis to be made available in US states where pot is legal.

Hunter S. Thompson left his wife the right to live on the Owl Farm property until her passing, but until recently it was owned by the "Gonzo Trust", an entity overseen by lawyers.

“The unintended consequences were that I had to be married to the trustees, where any time I had to do a repair I had to have a conversation with these lawyers,” Thompson told the Aspen Times in a recent article discussing her purchase of the land for $500,000.

The Gonzo strain of cannabis was created after Thompson was able to find a private lab in Boulder, Colorado, that could legally accept Hunter S. Thompson's 15-year-old marijuana and hashish samples. She took portions of 6 of Hunter's 12 bags that he had collected from 2000 to 2005 to the lab.

"We may have six separate strains, or one or more," Thompson told BuzzFeed News. "We will see."

"Although the 'drug lord' phrase is silly as it doesn't match my personality, I am looking forward to making the authentic strains available in legal states to support the farm and the scholarships," she said.
