Who Should Bring Emily Henry's Characters To The Big Screen?

With the Hollywood strikes coming to an end, writers and actors are back at it again. Our favorite book-to-screen adaptations are being written and rewritten. And, casting is around the corner now that actors are free to do what actors do. While there are several names being thrown around, I have a couple of unconventional but ultimately correct choices everyone must consider for the Emily Henry universe.

We need to start with the fan favorite: Beach Read.

January Andrews and Gus Everett started it all. The first couple in the Emily Henry Universe is the first couple I casted, and we need to start strong.

Elizabeth Henstridge as January Andrews

Elizabeth Henstridge has something classic and romantic about her much like January. She is also an acting powerhouse able to do comedy and drama in the same scene, and she makes it look easy. While the American accent may be a gray area, Henstridge can and will win over even the biggest of grumps on and off screen. Think about it. You'll agree with me by the end.

Bob Morley as Gus Everett

While I read the book, there was only one actor in my mind. Bob Morley has done grumpy and has done dreamy. He has done both at the same time. He even has a scar on his lip just like Gus. He looks like the part and has played a similar type on screen with great success. He made us laugh. He made us cry. He made us fall in love with him. Tell me he is not perfect. I dare you.

People We Meet on Vacation is next.

Following Beach Read is a tall order, but Poppy Wright and Alex Nilson stepped up to the plate. They need the perfect pair to make the friends-to-strangers-to-lovers trope work.

AnnaSophia Robb is Poppy. Look at her Instagram. She is cute. She is funny. She is sassy. She is classic. We've all known about her for years, so I am floored her name isn't thrown around more for this adaptation. Her range is undeniable. She has made the world swoon as well as traumatized a whole generation. Cast her immediately.

Calahan Skogman as Alex Nilson

Alex Nilson is tall, handsome, and nerdy. Calahan Skogman is all of that and more. We know he can deliver a lot with just a look, and he was an athlete in another life. Skogman looks like a model, but when he smiles, he brings the wholesomeness of a boy raised in the Midwest. No one encapsulates Alex Nilson quite as well as Calahan Skogman does.

Book Lovers comes in third.

The most rom-com of Henry's books, Book Lovers needs beauty and brains and a whole lot of chemistry for Nora Stephens and Charlie Lanstra.

Nora Stephens is on the more difficult end to cast. She's hot. She's sophisticated. She's incredibly complex. Brianne Howey does all of it on Ginny and Georgia. She's charming and at times cold but she's always beautiful. Howey can bring all the layers of Nora to the screen.

Logan Lerman as Charlie Lastra

We have known about Logan Lerman for decades. He has been everyone's favorite white boy for the whole time. He can play brooding and sappy. He has been romantic, and he has been rude. Logan can match book Charlie on every level. Superficially, Lerman is also so pretty to look at which only makes his talent so much better. Logan is Charlie. Charlie is Logan.

The latest book is Happy Place.

While no adaptation has been announced, I have thought about who should bring Harriet Kilpatrick and Wyn Connor to life so I'm adding them to the list for the hell of it. Maybe I can inspire Hollywood to pick it up.

Phillipa Soo as Harriet Kilpatrick

Phillipa Soo is gorgeous and extraordinarily talented. I still shiver thinking of her as Eliza Hamilton. We know she can be sweet as she falls in love, and she can carry the weight of heavy scenes without hesitation. She can do comedy. She can cry with the best of them. Harriet needs all of it. Soo is brilliant, and if Harriet comes to the big screen, Soo should be the first choice.

Joe Alwyn as Wyn Connor

Joe Alwyn mostly does indie films or critical darling projects, but if he were ever to do something more fun, an Emily Henry adaptation would be it. Wyn Connor would be perfect. Alwyn is a dramatic actor, and Wyn is much more serious than most of the love interests in these books. Given the chance, Alwyn would kill this role and win all of our hearts.
