BTS Fanfics: My Latest Obsession

My latest obsession has been BTS fanfiction where I can enjoy stories starring V, Jungkook, Jimin, Suga, Jin, RM, and J-Hope. Some stories involve romance or fantasy pairings between members. Others are adventure stories that take our favorite Kpop band to different places around the world. Some even write stories that put the reader in the action. Pretty much whatever you are looking for with BTS, you’ll be able to find with fanfics. If you aren’t satisfied with some of the fics you read, you can even write your own and build an audience of other BTS fans reading your stories!

Below, I will share the best fanfiction sites that I have come across if you want to read or write your own BTS fanfiction. They are in order of my overall preference and also include my own personal review of the sites. I’d recommend you try them all out and see which you like best. It will be different for every person.

1) Commaful

Certainly not the biggest archive for BTS fanfiction, but it has a very cool style of BTS stories. There are images that accompany the stories so you can see the beautiful faces of all the BTS members as you read. It’s hard to describe exactly, but the stories look kind of like photo books. Each page can have text and also images. I love the ones that show reactions from Suga in particular. They’re just so cute. You have to try it to feel the magic for yourself.

The stories on here are a bit shorter, which is both a pro and a con. The stories are really easy and fast to read. But the stories also end fast and aren’t as in depth.

I tried writing a story here too. It’s really really fun. Highly recommend trying it.

I met some other BTS fans on the site too and I was able to use their messaging system to make some new friends. Always fun meeting fellow ARMY.

2) Archive Of Our Own

This is the biggest BTS archive I could find (by far). It doesn’t have images, can be a bit drier, but the fics are very in depth and have very good plots. I read these like I read novels: bit by bit before bed.

Warning: Read the tags and authors notes before reading a story. There can be a lot of smut and mature themes in these stories. They can get pretty extreme, so definitely check to be sure that you’re okay with the themes in the story you’re about to read. If you do end up liking Archive of Our Own (AO3), I’d recommend spending some time to learn how to use the advanced search tool. It can be a bit confusing, but very powerful once you figure it out. It allows you to filter out mature themes, tags, and more that you don’t want in the fanfiction you read.

I wish they had a messaging system or more forms of engagement with the writers. The content is great but I think it could definitely use some more ways to interact with other fans. It actually seems like most people take their conversations off of this site and onto entirely different sites, like Tumblr.

3) Wattpad

The Wattpad stories vary more in quality than some of the other sites I came across. I found some very rough stories as well as some good ones. It’s hard to pick them apart, but the gems are definitely there. Not much choice other than reading a bunch and seeing what you like.

Wattpad is one of the bigger overall writing sites for teenagers, so a lot of teenage fans for BTS are also on Wattpad.

Pretty decent app and messaging system, which is a good pro. An app makes it so much easier to search for stories when on a mobile app.

4) Tumblr

Tumblr has a pretty huge BTS fandom. It’s a lot more than just BTS fics, however. You’ll find BTS news, shitposts, quotes, pictures, and more in addition to some fanfiction. If you’re looking specifically for fanfics, then this site probably isn’t for you as it can be difficult to locate just the fanfics; however, if you are a big BTS fan overall and want everything BTS related, then you will love Tumblr.

The chat system on Tumblr is great too. Just search “BTS” in the search bar and follow the BTS tag. You’ll get all the random BTS stuff.

5) AsianFanFics

I have heard a lot about AsianFanFics, but never actually visited the site except when I embarked on this journey to discover the best sources of BTS fanfics. The quality there is quite high. They also have good filters to make sure you are able to filter out content you don’t want to see.

Personally, I found the ads a bit annoying. I saw ads all over the site and it was a bit distracting to my low attention span mind.

ARMY RULES

I downloaded/visited around a dozen sites that hosted some BTS fanfiction and these were my favorite of the 5 in terms of quality and size of library. As I mentioned earlier, I’d recommend trying as many as you can to get a sense of what you might like.

This adventure has led to a few new friends certainly a lot of BTS goodness that will keep me entertained for the foreseeable future.
