South Indian cinema has really taken a huge step forward in the world stage thanks to the help of the Bahubali duology. For people who are not familiar with Indian films, the first thing that they tell me when they say what made them watch an Indian film is the visuals. Cinema is a visual based art form, which is able to captivate a viewer with the visuals that are put on the celluloid. Indian films offer a rich (and very different) visual portrait of the world. For this list, I'm capturing the visual essence of Tamil cinema by using an interesting frame from a film. I've chosen films from the year 2000 and onwards, only because it is easier for myself to find good quality screenshots for films from this time frame. There are plenty of films with beautiful imagery from before 2000, but some of those movies haven't had the digital remastering to offer the full poetry the cinematographer and director initially wanted to show. So here's a list (in no particular order) that shows some of the best visuals put on Tamil cinema screens since 2000. To be fair, I've only put one screenshot per film (though for some movies its really hard to pinpoint one great visual as there might be many). I've also added a little description of what I would interpret the shot to be. It could be in context of the actual situation in the movie, or just my way of seeing the visual. (For the record, this list is based solely on visual content of a particular frame, and not on the film's story).
