Christmas is that time of year when some of the best movies are played out show that the feelings everyone gets around Christmas should be felt the whole year through. All of these movies bring some kind of moral aspect to the viewer and all of them have great acting and dialog. Some people think these are the best movies of all time, not just Christmas based, and they could possibly be right. The fact is that there are few movies of this caliber being created these days and everyone should give them a try at least once.
1. Tim Burton's The Nightmare before Christmas (1993): Probably one of the best examples of stop motion action ever created, this wonderful tale centers around Christmas in Halloween town. While other Christmas based movies inspire people by placing them in snow covered towns with miserly old men around them changing their ways, this movie creates a unique twist by having Santa kidnapped and hidden away. Definitely a movie for fans of Tim Burton or any one that likes the more Gothic aspect of plots and drama.
2. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965): Definitely a classic to this day, the Charlie Brown Christmas takes the viewer through an outstanding collage of Christmas themed inspiration and gives you the feeling of warmth and love that good friends and family bring to you every day. While the dialog lacks in a few places, the whole concept gives you a renewed awakening of the child inside you that begs to be let out on Christmas morning. Overall, this is a movie that everyone should see at least once in their life.
3. Holiday Inn (1942) Holiday Inn is one of those classics that everyone should see at some point in their lives. Taking place at an old farm house run by Bing Crosby, this romantic escapade of a film is full of laughs and great dialog. While Crosby decides to leave show business to become a farmer, he is hit with the idea of creating a club open only on holidays since farming was a bit of a change from what he was used to. Add to this the dancing debonair of Fred Astaire trying to steal Crosby’s new love interest away and you have yourself one great Holiday movie.
4. A Christmas Carol (1951): The classic story of Scrooge and the three ghosts comes to life in this entertaining and heartwarming movie. Everyone knows this story and for those that haven’t seen the movie yet, you are missing out on one of the all-time best Christmas based movies ever made. Watching the gradual transformation of the miserly old man and the facial characteristics as he goes from money hungry to passive wish giver is a feat that all movie goers will relish for the rest of their lives.
5. White Christmas (1954): What could be better than having a White Christmas? The ever inspiring Bing Crosby took this song and the movie into the homes of millions and turned their daily lives into something grand and peaceful. With Crosby’s heartwarming vocals and the ability to make people laugh at just the right moment,
White Christmas soon became another American past time during the seasonal holiday. A definite must see for anyone that loves a classic movie with great musical scores.
6. It's a Wonderful Life (1946): This is probably one of the most heart-felt movies of all time, next to Casablanca, but that has nothing to do with Christmas. The viewer will find themselves consumed in the movie as they watch the main character do everything possible to change the lives of those around him, sometimes failing and sometimes being successful, just so he can get a second chance at life. Nothing says Christmas better than this movie and the love one feels after watching it.
7. A Christmas Story (1983): This is probably one of the best examples of how comedy can fit nicely into a movie with morals. While the young protagonist is on a never ending quest to get his Red Rider BB Gun, the following antics that evolve from his friends and family members, including Santa kicking him down the slide, is enough to make the most mean hearted person smile with happiness. If you see only one movie on this list, it should be this one.
