Who Stole Lolis' Squeaker Toy

Let's solve this mystery and put an end to this heinous crime!

8:30 AM

The gates open.

It's a Sunny Day at Barkin' Meadows and the dog owners have brought their pups to play. As it is the long weekend, five families find difficulty in taking their dogs on their travels so they leave their furends overnight with all they could possibly desire: food, water, beds, and of course, toys.

8:31 AM. Hank.

Hank has been running the Boarding Kennel for a whole year now and feels this weekend might get slightly overwhelming for him. He recently lost his hearing but with brand new technology, he was able to get hearing aids and now he has the auditory ability of a blind hawk. He is worried though that with this new Superman Supersonic hearing, he will hear every bark, yelp, howl, growl, and squeak of the dogs... how utterly annoying, thinks the old man. He must find the courage to bear through.

8:46 AM. Rupert.

Carlos Rodriguez Hernandez has been waiting all morning to drop off Rupert for the weekend. He simply can't wait to get on the road, hop onto first class, and make his way down to Cabo to attend his sister's wedding.

Unfortunately, in the rush of things, he forgot Rupert's favorite squeaky ball toy. Whatever, he thinks, as he speeds down the silent streets of suburbia which will soon become loud with the horrible shrieks of happy children, he will be fine for one weekend... he won't need it that bad, will he?

8:55 AM. Jenna.

Frank van Ivan hastily leads Jenna to the Boarding Kennel. He's on the run from the police and he's wanted for movie pirating and theft of dog toys. Damn the government and their copyright laws! The dog toys? He has no idea how they got into his house. He suspects his wonderful pooch and her horrible addiction to the finer things in life as well as maybe... did he influence her to become a criminal No... he luscious blonde fur could never have hidden that many toys... she would never have gotten away with it. Who was it then that placed those stolen doggy goods in his house??

He must go into hiding and figure this out, but he can't afford to take his beautiful model dog with him, they'll easily recognize her! Day care will be the perfect place for her for a few days until he can figure out what to do with the law...

9:01 AM. Lollis

Lollis was not looking forward to today. You know what, yeah, her humans and their silly minions did provide her with a good life but she was sick and tired of dogs playing with her toys every time they graciously took her to Day Care. No matter how many times Lollis told her stupid humans that she did not want them to bring her toys to Barkin' Meadows, they just clearly could not understand her above-human-dog-dialect.

This time, they really made her mad. It appeared to Lollis she would be spending the weekend at Barkin' Meadows and as a result, they had brought Stanley with her, her favorite squeaker toy. Enough was enough. Lollis decided, if any dog tries to play with my toy, I will dig a hole so deep, growl them inside of it, and then lay on top of them all day! THAT will teach those ungrateful fur balls whose parents clearly over-taught the idea of "doggy sharing."

9:03.01AM. Randall.

The arrival of Randall surprises Hank. For a whole 10 months Randall came to daycare religiously in between attending classes at the police academy. Randall failed miserably. It's not that he was a dumb dog, it's just that he couldn't understand the commands in Dutch. Why, oh why, did they want him to be bilingual. He could only speak Barklish... not Dutch, and on the odd day he could understand Cantonese but that's beside the point.

After failing police school, Randall went into a horrible depression and began acting out in the home. Hank heard rumors Randall started taking socks and hoarding them under the bed. He even took food off the counters when his humans weren't looking and hid them under his bed. One time, his humans found a dead slug in the pile he had created of clothes, old shoes, books, and food. Randall had become a hoarder, it was clear. To combat his impulsive hoarding, the humans decided Randall needed a break from day care where all the other pups would make fun of him for his failure of career. The other dogs only triggered his hoarding.

Hank was surprised that after 4 weeks Randall was back... maybe his hoarding had subsided and Hank was curious to see if it would be re-triggered by the other dogs.

9:10 AM. Arlo.

Arlo's big day was about to happen today: the first day he would attempt to herd dogs in an attempt to impress Mr. Hank. Arlo had a feeling Mr. Hank really enjoyed spending hours watching YouTube videos of shelties herding sheep and Arlo had a yearning for impressing Mr. Hank. Today would be the day, he thought. Well... there may not be sheep at Barkin' Meadows but Arlo saw no difference between sheep and dogs: both have fur, both have 4 legs, both have 2 eyes, they have four legs, and they both especially have butts made for sniffing. The similarities are endless.

The plan was simple, bark like a bat out of hell repeatedly until all the dogs crowded together. The motivation of why the dogs would crowd together was irrelevant, whether they did so out of fear or out of a purse desire to make Arlo shut up, it did not matter. Arlo was going to impress Mr. Hank today no matter what... even if it meant using sneaky/dirty methods of herding, like enticing the dogs to come together over a squeaky toy...

11:00 AM. The Crime.

Lollis had finally brought out Stanley the Squeaker to play with ten minutes ago. And now... she turns her back for one second and it's gone. Lollis lets out a high pitched scream which to silly humans translates as a single bark.

WHO could have done such a thing!?

11:05 AM. The Evidence.

Everyone is a suspect and each furend can't help but notice the guilty actions of the others:

Randall's Hoarding -

Randall was being bullied by Benjamin, the playground bully Pug, who was making fun of him for failing the Academy. It's clear that between 10:00 am to 11:00 am Randall had began hoarding again and a Tug-Of-Rope was found in his Kennel at 10:48 AM when Lollis walked past.

Lollis' Growl

Lollis spotted Randall's hoarding behaviors and gave a low growl under her breath. It might be speculation, but Jenna certainly noticed how annoyed Lollis was with the hoarding situation. Could Lollis have hidden her own ball in an attempt to throw everyone off and have Hank blame the other furends so they could be put in time out, therefore giving Lollis all the privacy to play with the Stanley the Squeaker by herself?

Jenna's Criminal History

Okay, yes, sure, Jenna knew the Squeaker by name... it's not her fault her human taught her how to be a good criminal. She knew everyone's toys... Randall liked hoarding everything so there are too many names to list, Andy the Pitbull's favorite toy was Johnny the talking ball, Lollis would kill for Stanley, Benjamin the Pug liked Fluff the Hedgehog toy, Arlo liked his stuffed Sheep, Sheepy (real original, humans...)... the list was endless. Besides, why would Jenna steal the toy, come on now. Rupert had his suspicions though: it was to have to the collection of the other toys she stole. He had been to Jenna's house when his human had a horrible attempt at shmoozing over her human. He saw the mound of toys Jenna had stolen and had framed her dad for. Jenna was a kleptomanic.

Rupert and Steven the Squeaker

Rupert had been sitting alone all day in his kennel. He missed his favorite toy. Until he saw Lollis bring out her favorite Squeaker... looked an awful lot like his favorite toy from home, Steven the Squeaky. In Lollis' mouth it looked a wholeeeeee lot like Steven. Had his human betrayed him and given Steven away? He had to see for himself. Arlo saw from the corner of his eye, Rupert spent all morning devising a master plan about how he would check out the squeaker to determine its identity without Lollis knowing. If that was in fact Steven the Squeaker, Rupert had to commit theft....

Arlo's Herding

Arlo had successfully herded everyone! But how... thought an impressed Hank. Arlo had tried daily to round up animals: horses, ants, birds, cats, even grains of food that had fallen on the floor... yet each time he was horribly unsuccessful. And yet today, amidst the chaos of the weekend, he had succeeded... How...

Hank's Hearing

Hank had been outside tending to the furends all day. Randall could notice how utterly irritated Hank was getting, what with all the barking and the playing. Randall appreciated Hank much more when he was deaf. It got especially bad when at 10:50 AM Lollis had brought out her favorite toy and all the dogs started eyeing it up and wanting to play with it. Had Hank gone that far and taken the ball away to make everyone stop yapping?
