9 Reasons Why "Redfall" Is About To Become Your New Favourite Video Game Obsession

Sink your teeth (pun intended) into the newest project by Arkane Studios, which features immersive storytelling, epic gameplay, and the chance to slay vampires.

When it comes to highly anticipated video game releases of 2023, Redfall has to be at the top of the list. Featuring epic gameplay, immersive storytelling and the chance to slay vampires, here are just some of the reasons why it's about to become your new favourite gaming obsession.

1. For starters, Redfall has been developed by the award-winning Arkane Studios — who have crafted some of the best video games in the industry.

Through their previous titles — which include Dishonored, Dishonored 2, Prey and DEATHLOOP — Arkane has built a legacy of carefully designed worlds and immersive sims. You can expect the same attention to detail in Redfall, where the studio has channeled its signature gameplay and high-quality design to create a visually stunning game that will have you hooked.

2. Although Redfall features vampires, they aren't your typical bloodsuckers. Instead, they're linked to an interesting storyline that will have you playing for hours on end to uncover all of the island's mysteries.

In case you didn't know, the premise of the game is that the island town of Redfall, Massachusetts, is under siege by a legion of vampires who have blocked out the sun and cut the citizens off from the outside world. These aren't your ordinary vampires though.

According to Redfall's official lore, the vampires were created after a scientific experiment went horribly wrong and are continuing to evolve. Some developed powerful abilities, while others manipulated many of Redfall's citizens into becoming subservient cultists who worship the island's hungry new leadership with the hopes of joining them.

3. To defeat the vampires, you'll get to play as one of four unique and customisable characters — each with their own backstory and special abilities.

There's Devinder Crousley, a tech genius who is able to craft his own anti-vampire weaponry that can then be used in-game; Remi De La Rosa, a badass engineer and robotics specialist who has served on the frontlines; Layla Ellison, who has the power of telekinetics at her disposal (as well as a vampire ex-boyfriend named Jason who is down to lend a helping hand in a fight); and Jason Boyer, an ex-military sharpshooter who mysteriously comes with a psychic raven and vampiric eye.

4. Oh, and did I mention that one of the playable characters in Redfall has an adorable robotic sidekick named Bribón who can act as a decoy, cover and attack drone all in one?

Every good video game involves having some sort of cute sidekick — and even though I've only known Bribón for a couple of minutes, I would already die for this dog-like heap of metal. If that hasn't convinced you to play Redfall, I don't know what will.

5. Plus, players will get the opportunity to select and refine their character's upgrades and abilities to suit their playstyles — whether you're all guns blazing type or someone who prefers stealth combat.

Alongside this, you'll also get the chance to collect a massive arsenal of specialised weaponry. Personally, I'm such a big fan of customisation in games because it makes your chosen character feel that much more unique to your identity! With Redfall, there are so many options when it comes to deciding exactly who your hero is and how they fight.

6. Speaking of heroes, there's the choice to play single-player if that's your style — or you can team up with three of your friends to have a unique co-op experience where you can play as different characters and team up to defeat the vampires of Redfall.

And if you go down the co-op route, that means you can combine the powers, strengths and tools of the different heroes to overcome the vampire legion! It offers yet another layer to the gameplay of Redfall — and you can bet that I'll be bugging my friends and sister to play it with me.

7. You'll face off against supremely powerful vampire gods, like The Hollow Man, Bloody Tom, Miss Whisper and The Black Sun, who rule over Redfall and have a villainous backstory.

Originally, these vampire gods were wealthy biotech entrepreneurs from Aevum Laboratories, who are behind the scientific experiments that brought vampires to Redfall in the first place. They willingly transformed themselves and with their newfound powers, established themselves at the top of the vampiric hierarchy. In the game, they're basically like final bosses you have to defeat, so prepare yourself for some badass fighting against the gods of Redfall.

8. If side quests and exploring video game worlds are your thing, Redfall gives you the chance to do both. There are plenty of encounters you can stumble upon that give you the chance to level up your character's abilities and learn more about the island.

The game's open-ended structure basically means you can define the pace of the narrative. If a particular vampire fight is too tough, players can take some time out to explore the once-bustling downtown, the haunted forest, the decimated seaside boardwalk, or even the supernatural psychic spaces. You have the power to create your own story within Redfall's narrative, which is super cool.

9. And, if you needed one more final reason, it's just that Redfall seems like an epic boatload of fun.

I'm itching to test it out for myself because between the stunning graphics, unique character customisation and interesting storyline, I have no doubt that I'll be spending many a night after work sinking my teeth (pun intended) into Redfall.
