Billie Eilish Thanked Taylor Swift For A Speech She Made In 2014 That Ended Up Coming True

In a 2014 speech, Taylor said: "Somewhere right now, your future Woman of the Year is probably sitting in a piano lesson or in a girls choir." Little did she know, she was exactly right.

At the age of just 17, William Eyelash — also known by her stage name Billie Eilish — has won Billboard's Woman of the Year award, capping off what's been an incredible year for the singer.

It's probably an understatement to say that Billie has been the breakout star of 2019. In fact, since releasing her debut album to critical acclaim back in March, she's become one of the biggest stars in the world.

So it's fair to say that Billie's more than earned the Woman of the Year accolade. And, in typical Billie style, her speech was an off-the-cuff stream of consciousness that had the whole room laughing.

"Y'all's speeches were long as fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!" she said as soon as she took the mic. "Oh my god! Fuck! Long as hell!"

She wasn't exactly wrong. Taylor Swift, who scooped the Woman of the Decade award, gave an empowering 15-minute speech that called out the "toxic male privilege" in the music industry.

And it was Taylor who Billie wanted to thank in particular, referencing something the "Blank Space" singer said five years ago while accepting the same award.

Back in 2014, Taylor was named Woman of the Year for the second time. On that occasion, she used the platform to talk about inspiring and taking care of the younger generation.

Well, maybe Taylor can add "psychic fortune-teller" to her already extensive résumé, because she was exactly right!

"I was 11 at the time, and I was in a choir, and I was learning to play piano," Billie said. "You took care of me, so thank you."

Taylor also gave a nod to Billie in her own speech, saying: "At that exact moment, an 11-year-old girl in California really was taking piano lessons and really was in a girls choir, and this year, she's been named Woman of the Year at the age of 17."

And it was full circle for Billie, who went from watching Taylor's 2014 speech at home to standing alongside her as a peer and fellow Woman of the Year winner. You really do love to see it. 💖
