This Is What American Movies And TV Shows Make The USA Look Like To Someone Not From The States

"Your average mildly rebellious teenager will have mastered the three-second car hot-wire."

As a Brit, I know films rarely paint a full picture of what life is really like.

But there are surely some exaggerations and inaccurate depictions that Hollywood implants on its own country.

    1. Can you really dive into a taxi and shout "Drive" with no questions asked?

Karan Soni as Dopinder in the front of his Taxi looking scared in Deadpool

    2. Likewise, could you simply ask a cabdriver to follow/stalk someone without any explanation, and they'll comply?

    3. I'm convinced that it's commonplace to have a giant breakfast spread ready before work or school.

A big breakfast in front of Robert John Burke as Bart Bass and Kelly Rutherford as Lily van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl

    4. Summer camp is some sort of rite of passage.

    5. Throwing a rock at a window is totally fine and won't crack/break it.

    6. Also, climbing through a window up a drainpipe is totally normal.

    7. Are blackboards still the main tool of teaching?

    8. Apparently, no one says "hello" or "goodbye" when answering or hanging up the phone.

    9. Does everyone have what looks like a blender in their sink drain?

    10. I won't believe that military school is the go-to punishment for a misbehaving kid.

    11. I'm almost certain that it's practically illegal to finish a drink at a bar.

Gabriel Macht as Harvey Spencer sipping a drink in "Suits"

    12. Also, bartenders have impeccable memories, and are all super keen to get a bribe from the police.

    13. Drivers tend to leave their keys in some incredibly accessible places.

    14. Oh, and naturally, your average mildly rebellious teenager will have mastered the three-second hot-wire.

    15. Everyone at school seems to sit at single desks.

Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad sitting at her single desk in "Hairspray"

    16. And apparently, there's no such thing as an even number of students in a science class.

Amanda Bynes as Viola and Laura Ramsey as Monique sitting in science class together in "She's The Man"

    17. Are there clearly defined high school cliques, or am I being sold a lie?

The cast of "High School Musical" all performing a musical number in the canteen

    18. Is pledging allegiance part of the daily routine?

    19. Do people actually learn to drive at school?

Frankie Muniz as Cody Banks behind the wheel of a car with his driving instructor about to vomit in "Agent Cody Banks"

    20. Is drinking milk with dinner a thing?

    21. Kegs seem to be readily available at any standard liquor store.

Which of these are Hollywood hyperbole and which are actually not far off the truth? Let us know in the comments below!
