The Silhouette Challenge And Finding Your Inner Fire

This is for the Editorial Fellowship.

So if you’re anything like me by this point whenever you hear “Put Your Head on my Shoulder (Remix)” by Mattrixx you see a red lit background and someone posing in a door frame. This is just one of the latest trends coming from TikTok, or as my friends and I joke, Thirst Tok.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love a good thirst trap as much as the next person but as a plus size woman I have my trepidation when it comes to challenges like the #SilhouetteChallenge.

If you’re anything like me you are the first one to cheer on your friends posting amazing photos and videos however when it comes time for you to hit the record button you are able to point out a multitude of your own flaws that would be invisible to everyone else. “Oh no you can see my stomach rolls” “How am I supposed to pose to hide my butt?” “How is this even sexy?” These are just some things that have at least run through my head.

I have been struggling with my weight since around middle school, I would look at magazines and TV shows to see what body style was in fashion at the time and waited for the day to see mine. Growing up I started to get comfortable in my body, but it’s been a journey. Nowadays girls have people like Jazzmyne and Lizzo slaying the scene and spreading those body positivity vibes.

These queens are helping to pave the way for more self love and acceptance.

So for everyone wondering do I look good, can I be sexy, should I do it? Go for it! Straighten that crown and do what scares you. You are stunning just as you are. Celebrate your dips and curves, enjoy your features, you are the only person who will ever be you. That in itself is sexy, amazing, and powerful.
