8 Empowering Cameos In Beyonce's "Lemonade"

In her visual album "Lemonade", Beyoncé strongly advocates all things feminism and female empowerment. While she takes center stage, she doesn't do it alone. Other powerful, honorable women of color take charge on screen too, and they do an amazing job of it. Take a look at who makes an appearance, you might be surprised!

1. Serena Williams

On the courts, she's the star player, but on the screen she's a queen. While she had previously made a cameo in Beyoncé's "7/11", she comes on extra powerful in the track titled "Sorry" as she twerks and struts her stuff next to the Queen Bey.

2. Zendaya

Zendaya, who had dealt with many comments saying she was "too white" or "too black" pushes to establish herself as a proud woman of color by appearing alongside Beyoncé in the track "Freedom".

3. Amandla Stenberg

Amandla was originally cast as Rue in the Hunger Games series, but she faced backlashed when some were upset when the character was casted as a black girl. By starring in the visual album, Amandla is challenging haters by establishing that women of color can be casted into anything that they dang please.

4. Winnie Harlow

As a Canadian fashion model and spokesperson for a melatonin depleting skin condition known as vitiligo, Winnie shows us that beauty goes beyond skin deep as she shows off her lovely pigment and flaunts her girl power in the visual album.

5. Mothers of Black Lives Matter

"Lemonade" calls attention to the suffering faced by the Black Lives Matter movement by featuring the mothers of Eric Garner (Gwen Carr), Mike Brown (Lesley McSpadden), and Trayvon Martin (Sybrina Fulton). Adding them into the mix of notable faces strengthens the message of the BLM movement and the empowerment of all people of color.

6. Michaela DePrince

Michaela DePrince, 21, is a remarkable dancer who broke the rigorous stereotypes of ballet by proving that women of color can take center stage, too, as she does by dancing her heart out to the track "Freedom".

7. Leah Chase

As a famous Creole chef, she owned a restaurant called "Dooky Chase's", and during NOLA in the 1960's she passed out food to all the Civil Rights activists. This act instantly grants her a spot among the most influential women of color.

Aged 8, Ava Clark has a condition called albinism where she lacks skin pigmentation (like Winnie Harlow), but on a more extreme level. Her white skin doesn't cover her black pride as she flaunts it among other honorable faces in the visual album.
