[Lacenaire](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_Fran%C3%A7ois_Lacenaire) shocked the world as an unlikely serial killer, due to his frail appearance. The very first of the "Dandy Assassin" trope, Lacenaire took on multiple identities to flee armies, local officials, and even his former inmates. Most famous for his poetry he wrote days before the guillotine, he won over the hearts of many in his theatrical display at his trial, in which he damned the friends who betrayed him.

[Benkei](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benkei) is a legendary warrior hailing from feudal Japan. He carried no less than 7 weapons and defeated 999 unworthy samurai, but lost his 1000th battle. He then followed his worthy adversary for the remainder of his life in his service, until the moment of his death. Benkei was so fearsome and well known amongst his enemies that he died at the hands of an entire army.

Born about 1701, [Mary Toft](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Toft) has been immortalized in history for giving birth to multiple rabbits. No one knows for sure \*why\* she did it, but a surprising number of people believed her, following her account that she had simply _looked at a rabbit_ during her pregnancy.

His opinions were highly regarded in 1700s society, especially because he wrote a dictionary. When the mystery of the Cock Lane Ghost came to London, Johnson was one of the few to stay up all night to prove its invalidity.
