The new GDPR affects any business which holds data on EU citizens, regardless of its location. So if you're in America, or Australia, but work with EU data, then you need to adhere to the guidelines!

What does a DPO do?

That tacit agreement you've been using to contact people using their data is no longer sufficient. You must acquire consent from the individual and it must be clear and explicit.

According to GDPR, what is deemed ‘explicit consent’?

If someone wants to know what data you presently hold on them, you must furnish that data to them within one month of their request, according to new GDPR regulations.

If your data has been affected or breached in any way, you must report this within 72 hours. Or else....
