natural hair Growing up with curly thick hair had its ups and downs, everyone always had something to say about it, to my mother saying she wished she had all my lovely luscious hair to the bullies making fun of me at school saying “eww your black” (which in fact later on I found out I am afro Mexican), to me talking to myself saying I hated my hair and I wanted to be like everyone else and have straight hair, but like we all know, we want what we cant have. So I had gotten my first relaxer when I was 14, it was a new chi relaxer kit and it cost $200, and I was so excited to finally have straight hair because before my mom would only straighten my hair once every month, I had a lot of hair. But then when I received the relaxer my hair just went wavy on the top and really straight on the bottom, I hadn’t realized till that point that I had good hair and that it was truly beautiful, I took it for granted, eventually with tremendous amounts of trims and treatments I had gotten my curly hair back, and now when I hear a client ask me for advice on getting a relaxer I tell them my exact story and how I truly miss my big springy naturally curly hair, its unique and you should love it , both perms and relaxers have positive and negative aspects , but at the end of the day it is all in your preference.
