Dude, I have SUCH bad news for you, bro. You shouldn't date me, or any person, ever. Your knowledge of gender diversity is sad, your willingness to listen and learn is totally absent, and I'm worried that you might have a history of date rape. You're the kind of guy who makes dirty jokes DURING a sexual harassment seminar. I'm going to go call all the gals you've ever been with and make sure that they're ok. Luckily, that shouldn't take long... If you want to fix this, and become a better person, it's time to start researching the female point of view. On the plus side, if you actually get better at understanding women, you'll have waaaaay more sex, I promise.

So, you might not actually do yoga, but you're really calm and at peace with the world as it is. Live and let live, right? So what if children are being taken from their parents at the US border and held in cages for months? So what if most of our elected officials are old white men who hate birth control? So what if national parks are being destroyed? Everyone should just learn to get along, right? Sorry, Yoga Dude, your inability to care about people as much as you care about "balance" is a big turn off. Sometimes, horrible shitty stuff happens in the world. When it does, good people fight it, they do not ignore it.

Ok, so, Trump makes you wince, and you know that pussy grabbing isn't cool. You went to the first Women's March to support your friend, who is a girl, mostly because you liked her. You're registered to vote, but you didn't bother to canvass last election. You're not a BAD guy, necessarily, you just haven't done any real work on becoming a GOOD guy yet. I can't date you...I don't have the time to read all of bell hooks and Rebecca Solnit's works to you...I have to go change the world and stuff. But you're not hopeless. So maybe some other enterprising person will date you and show you the ropes...or maybe you'll wake up and teach yourself. That would be the best for all concerned, really.

The Project

You'll rail on the internet against Bill Cosby, but then tell people that Hillary, "just wasn't likable." You'll loudly proclaim you believe in equal rights, but you'll either think the term "feminist" is too controversial, or you'll have labeled yourself a feminist without earning it. You'll blithely refer to women you encounter as, "honey," and give them hugs that last a tiny bit too long, but at the same time, you'll donate to Planned Parenthood, and buy buttons that say, "#BelieveWomen." I can't date you; you're confusing me! Can I trust you or not? We need allies, no question, but I can't tell if you're an ally, a faker, or just oblivious to the things that you do that aren't cool. If you're sincere, it's time to do some reading, and ask trusted female friends what you can do to improve your behavior.

The Problematic Ally

Ok, be real with us. You're a lady, right? It's ok, I won't judge. I might even still date you. It's just, you picked all the extra credit answers on this little quiz. So either you're a gal, or you're cheating, or you're perfect... Two of those are awesome...one means you might not be being honest with yourself or me. If you cheated just a little bit, you can take the quiz again, no judgment! If you didn't, call me, let's play Scrabble in our undies while we watch Wonder Woman and comment on its problematic awesomeness.

Perfection

You're a feminist in real life, not just on the internet. You've been following the news, and you know that the statistics about women's health and safety are terrible, and you consistently vote to try and change that. You only interrupt a woman if she's about to be hit by a bus, and you assume that she knows what she's talking about in her areas of expertise. You understand the basics of emotional labor, so you'll do the dishes and put your clothes in the hamper without being asked. You try your best to listen to music, read books, and watch movies that were written by women. If you discover you're making a misogynist mistake, because you were raised in the same sexist culture that we all were, you apologize immediately, and never make the same mistake again. You are not perfect, but you're listening, and oh God, we appreciate you so much. Fella, if I'm free, I will totally date you. We can go halfsies, for equality's sake.
