What Do You Want To Know About Borderline Personality Disorder?

You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a serious mental disorder where people experience ongoing instability in behavior, self-image, moods, and functioning.

People with BPD may also have other mood disorders like anxiety and depression, along with suicidal thoughts and tendencies.

There's probably a lot you don't know or understand about BPD — it's not as talked about as some mental illnesses, and it's not like there's a ton of accurate representation in pop culture out there.

It wasn't even added to the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders until 1980, so research is still relatively new... and still developing.

As a result, it's normal to have a plethora of questions on the disorder. For example, what are the causes of BPD? Is it inherited?

Or you've heard some misconceptions about the way people with BPD think or how they can't get better, and you want these to get cleared up.

Maybe you want advice on how to understand how to help a friend or loved one who has it.

Or perhaps you're curious as to how the treatment process happens, like, are there medications that help alleviate the internal struggles of someone with BPD?
